Men's Tennis Shutout Loyola Maryland 7-0

BALTIMORE, Md. (March 11, 2020) -- The Morgan State men's tennis team swept Loyola Maryland 7-0 Wednesday evening at the McClure Tennis Center at Ridley Athletic Complex in Baltimore, Maryland. The victory was the eighth on the season for the Bears.

Morgan State (8-3) dominated Wednesday's contest with impressive wins up and down the lineup in both doubles and singles.

Serhii Kharchev and Sebastian Lopez teamed up to defeat Skyler Gates and Peter Kelley in No. 1 doubles while Cem Erturk and Oguzhan Ceylan blanked Benny Glezer and Kyle Gower of Loyola Maryland (2-4) by the final of 6-3 in the No. 2 position in the lineup. Nihit Rawal and Shrey Gupta closed out doubles with a 6-2 triumph over Edik Pribitkin and Nate Ferro in the No. 3 spot Wednesday.

The Bears carried a 1-0 lead into singles and kept the momentum rolling. Erturk competed in the No.1 position and topped Gates 6-0, 6-3 while Rawal owned in the No. 2 spot in the lineup and claimed a tough 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 win over Glezer. Ceylan fired past Kyle Gower 6-2, 6-1 in No. 3 singles while Lopez picked up a 6-0, 6-1 decision in his favor over Pribitkin. Kharchev had a strong showing in the No. 5 spot thanks to a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) clean sweep of Charlie Shanker. Mark Amaefule outlasted Colin Corsini 6-4, 6-3 in No. 6 singles to help give the Bears the match sweep and its third straight match victory.

The Bears returns to the court on Sunday morning to battle North Carolina A&T in its conference opener. The first serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. eastern time in Greensboro, N.C.
