BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 3, 2020)-Senior guard
Chelsea Mitchell was named Madness Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday by the staff of
College Sports Madness.
Â
This is the sec honor this season for Coleman by
College Sports Maddness. She also received the award on Jan. 14.
Â
This is the first
College Sports Madness honor this season for Lady Bear program and the first in almost a full year. Last season then senior forward
Adre'onia Coleman, who was a two-time selection by
College Sports Madness, earned her second award on Feb. 4, 2019.
Â
Mitchell recorded a double-double in Morgan State's lone game of the week, a 68-52 win at Howard on Saturday.
Â
The Columbia, Md. native scored a game-high 26 points to set her new career high in a Morgan uniform, surpassing her previous high of 25 points earlier this season at Delaware State (1/4). The 26 points were just two shy of tying her collegiate high of 28 points during her junior season at Lander University. Mitchell also added a game-high 14 rebounds to record her MEAC-leading 10th double-double of the season.
Â
Mitchell wasn't done there, as she nearly pulled off her first collegiate triple-double after collecting a career-tying eight steals against the Bison. Mitchell, who now has 166 career steals, moved into a tie for ninth-place all-time at Morgan State with Monesha Davis (166 steals from 2009-13).
Â
The Lady Bears return to action this Saturday, Feb. 8 when they host Maryland Eastern Shore at 2 p.m. at Hill Field House.
