BALTIMORE, Md. (February 24, 2020) -- The Morgan State men's basketball team came out victorious over the Delaware State Hornets, defeating them 90-80 Monday evening at Hill Field House.
Stanley Davis Jr. led the way with a game-high 27 points (10-15 FG) with eight rebounds and became the 28th player in Morgan State history to score 1,000 career points.
"Before the game coach said it's not about individual records it's about the team," said Davis. "It wasn't directed towards me, but I took it and ran with it."
"I got my thousand," added Davis. "It's definitely a good thing and definitely a big accomplishment for me this year, but it's a team win."
Morgan State improved to a 15-14 overall record and are 9-5 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Hornets (3-24, 2-11) have lost seven straight.
Sherwyn Devonish-Prince Jr. added 15 points and dished out seven assists, Malik Miller added 15 and six rebounds and Isaiah Burke added another 15 points.
Johquin Wiley scored a season-high 26 points for the Hornets, who have now lost 12 straight road games. Omari Peek-Green added 17 points and eight rebounds. John Crosby had 13 points and six rebounds.
Davis scored 16 points off the bench in the first half, and the Bears shot 47% against one of the worst defensive teams in the league to lead 46-36 at halftime.
Morgan State extended to a 72-54 lead when Davis buried a corner three-pointer with 10:45 left to play. The Hornets responded with a 13-2 run, and pulled to within 74-67 on a lay-up by Fahim Jenetto at the 8:27 mark of the second half.
Pinky Wiley had five points, including a three-point field goal, and Omari Peek-Green knocked down a three-ball to key the DSU rally.
The Hornets pulled to within 80-75 when Crosby hit two free throws with 4:12 remaining in the game, however Morgan State was able to maintain its cushion down the stretch.
The Bears improved to 2-0 against the Hornets for the season. Morgan State defeated Delaware State 81-68 on Jan. 4.
Morgan State will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 29 when they welcome crosstown rival Coppin State to Hill Field House for Round 2 of the annual "East vs. West" game. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
