Nina Carpenter was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defensive Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced on Tuesday. It is the first MEAC honor of the season for Carpenter.

North Carolina Central sophomore forward Anissa Rivera was named MEAC Player of the Week.

Carpenter was a defensive force in her second game as a Lady Bear in a 65-57 victory over Saint Peter's (12/5). A native of Las Vegas, Nev., Carpenter recorded a game-high five blocked shots, while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds (seven on the defensive end). Carpenter also added eight points on 2-for-2 shooting from the floor and knocked down four free throws.

The Lady Bears, who are starting the season 2-0 for the first time since the 2008-09 campaign, are off until Friday, Dec. 18, when they welcome Navy to Hill Field House.
