BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 26, 2020)-Morgan State The Morgan State women's basketball team closes out the first half of the Mid Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) schedule on Monday, Jan. 27, when it travels to Princess Anne, Md. to take on the Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore (MDES) at 5:30 p.m. at the Hytche Athletic Center. The game will be broadcast live on the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN).

BEAR CLAWS: Morgan State (9-11, 5-2 MEAC) is in the midst of a season-long three-game winning streak, following its 47-42 victory at rival Coppin State on Saturday.
Ashia McCalla scored a game-high 17 points and
Chelsea Mitchell scored 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to help the Lady Bears to a 47-42 come-from-behind victory over the Eagles.
Dahnye Redd added eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds. The Lady Bears shot just 10% (3-of-30) in the first half and finished 26.7% (16-of-60) for the game. Morgan tallied 11 steals with Mitchell (5) and Redd (3) leading the way.
Jihayah Chavis had two steals to give her 200 for her career. MSU has been led by Mitchell, who is averaging 13.6 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, both team highs. Redd is the team's second leading scorer (13.0) and rebounder (7.4), while McCalla is adding 12.1 points per outing.

MORGAN VS. MDES SERIES NOTES: Maryland Eastern Shore leads the all-time series, 42-38 after the two teams split last season's series each winning on the other's home floor. Morgan State has won six of the last eight meetings, including a 57-53 victory in Princess Anne (3/4/19). The Hawks won the first meeting last season, 73-68 in Baltimore (1/5/19).

HAWK TALONS: Maryland Eastern Shore (1-14, 1-4 MEAC) was idle on Saturday has lost two straight and seven of its last eight. The Hawks were dealt a 60-55 loss at South Carolina State (1/20). MDES had no answer for the Lady Bulldogs' Heniaya Moten, who finished with a game-high 33 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including five three-pointers. Moten also shot 12-of-17 from the free throw line. The Hawks were led by Dayona Godwin, who came off the bench to score a team-high 13 points and Adrienne Jones added nine. Amanda Carney is averaging a team-best 10.6 points and also leads the squad with 4.4 rebounds per game. Carney, who is shooting 80% from the free throw line, has knocked down a team-leading 46 three-pointers. Brooklyn Bailey is adding 9.9 points per contest. The Hawks are scoring 52.3 points a game and are giving up 64.8 points a game to their opponents.

NEXT UP: Morgan State will begin the second half of the MEAC slate on Saturday, Feb. 1 when it travels to the Nation's Capital to face the Howard Bison at Burr Gymnasium. Morgan State won the season's first meeting, 74-67 in Baltimore (1/18).

IT WON'T BE US: It took Morgan State nearly three quarters before it finally woke up in its contest at winless Coppin State (1/25). In the end the Lady Bears would overcome a late 12-point deficit (30-18) to defeat their crosstown rivals 47-42 in Round 1 of the annual "East vs. West" game. With the win Morgan State (9-11, 5-2 MEAC) avoided becoming the first win of the season for Coppin State, who fell to 0-18 overall, 0-6 MEAC.

NOT UP IN HERE: Morgan State remained unbeaten at Hill Field House this season after defeating North Carolina A&T (1/20). MSU improved to 6-0 with the win and have won seven straight home contests dating back to last year's regular season finale victory over Coppin State (3/7/19).

STREAK ENDERS: When the Lady Bears defeated North Carolina A&T, 42-38 at Hill Field House (1/20), the win put an end to the Lady Aggies' 28-game regular season winning streak over MEAC opposition. It would not be the first time that the women's basketball program was responsible for ending a lengthy MEAC winning streak. During the 2007 MEAC Tournament (3/9), Morgan State came-from-behind to defeat defending champion Coppin State, 69-67 in overtime in the semifinal round. The win ended a 14-game losing slide to Coppin State, as well as put to rest a 49-game winning streak against MEAC opponents by the Eagles.

IT'S HARD OUT THERE ON THE ROAD: The Lady Bears came from 12 points down late in the third quarter to defeat Coppin State (1/25) and  improve to 3-11 on the road this season, including 0-2 in neutral contests.

MAKE IT A DOUBLE: Chelsea Mitchell picked up her team– and MEAC-leading eighth double-double of the season in a victory at Coppin State (1/25). Mitchell finished with 15 points and had 10 rebounds.

LOOKING FOR A FOURTH: Morgan's win over Coppin State (1/25) marked the first time this season that the Lady Bears have earned three consecutive victories. When the Lady Bears face Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday they will be looking for their first four-game winning streak since the 2017-18 campaign when Morgan State recorded four straight victories twice.

CHAVIS CLOSING IN ON SIXTH ON STEALS CHART: Senior
Jihayah Chavis totaled two steals against Coppin State (1/25) to give her 200 steals for her career. and is now two steals away from passing Whitney Johnson (201 from 2003-07) for sixth.

MITCHELL EYEING NINTH ON STEALS CHART: Chelsea Mitchell tallied a game-high five steals in the win at Coppin State (1/25) to give her 157 steals for her career. Mitchell, who recorded a career-high seven steals in the Lady Bears' upset of N.C. A&T (1/20), is now 10 steals shy of passing Moneshia Davis (166 steals from 2009-13) for ninth all-time at Morgan State.
