Lady Bears Pickup Road Win At FAMU, 59-47

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Jan. 11, 2020)-Lana Skripkina came off the bench to score a team- and season-high 15 points and Chelsea Mitchell finished with 11 points and a team-high 13 rebounds to record her third straight double-double, as the Lady Bears defeated Florida A&M, 59-47 at the Al Lawson Center on Saturday.

Morgan State, which secured its second two-game winning streak of the season, improved to 6-10, 2-1 MEAC and Florida A&M fell to 2-12, 0-3 MEAC.

Skripkina shot 6-for-8 from the floor, including 3-for-5 from beyond the three-point arc, as the Lady Bears shot 21-of-54 for the game and 5-of-16 from three-point range, as Morgan State earned just its second win away from home in 12 attempts.

Mitchell, who recorded her seventh double-double of the season, also added a game-high five steals to give her 138 for her career and tie Debbie Grey (138 from 1985-90) for 13th all-time at Morgan State.

Dahnye Redd fell shy of a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds to help the guests hold a slim 43-41 rebounding advantage and earn their fourth straight victory over the Lady Rattlers.

Morgan State trailed the Lady Rattlers 20-15 after a quarter of play, before holding the hosts to just four points and 11 percent (1-of-9) shooting, while outscoring FAMU 14-4 in the second period to take a 29-24 halftime lead.

The Lady Bears went back to work in the third period, connecting on 7-of-12 shots for 58 percent, as they outscored FAMU, 19-9 in the period to extend their cushion to 48-33. Morgan State used a 19-3 run to start the third, capped off with a jumper from Skripkina with 3:37 remaining to give the Lady Bears their largest lead of the contest (21 points) at 48-27.

Florida A&M would get no closer than 11 points (48-37) on a layup by Burney-Robinson with 9:15 left in the contest. 

FAMU was led by Shalaunda Burney-Robinson, who scored a game-high 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting and tallied a team-leading nine rebounds. Alaina Rice chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Lady Bears travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. to take on defending MEAC Tournament champion Bethune-Cookman on Monday, Jan. 13 at 5:30 p.m. at Moore Gymnasium. The Lady Wildcats defeated Coppin State, 82-51 on Saturday.
