Ashia McCalla scored a game-high 21 points and
Ja'Niah Henson came off the bench to score 13, but it wasn't enough, as visiting Morgan State dropped a 74-65 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) decision at Bethune-Cookman on Monday evening at Moore Gymnasium.

Dahnye Redd added 10 points for the Lady Bears (6-11, 2-2 MEAC), who had its season-long two-game winning streak snapped, while falling for the seventh consecutive time to Bethune-Cookman.

Bethune-Cookman (11-5, 3-1 MEAC) the defending MEAC Tournament champions, shot nearly 50 percent for the game, finishing 24-of-49 (49 percent) from the floor, while holding Morgan State to 31.7 percent shooting (20-of-63).

Winners of three straight, the host Lady Wildcats were led by Daniella Hatcher, who converted on 11-of-12 free throw attempts to score 19 points. Hatcher also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out a game-high five assists. Ashanti Hunt recorded a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Amaya Scott finished with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Chelsea Mitchell, who entered the contest averaging a team-leading 9.4 rebounds, was ranked eighth in the nation in offensive rebounding and was the team's leading scorer at 14.6 points per game, was held without a rebound and limited to just three points. It was the first time this season that Mitchell was held without a rebound and was her lowest point total, since scoring four points at Nebraska (11/14).

However, Mitchell, who also ranks third in the nation in total steals, added a game-high four thefts to give her 63 for the season and 142 for her career to tie former Lady Bear Brittany Dodson (142 from 2007-11) for 12-place at Morgan State.

Morgan State trailed by as much as 18 points with 5:48 left in the second quarter after Tatum Hayes hit a three-pointer to put the Lady Wildcats up 34-16. The Lady Bears closed out the quarter on a 16-5 run, capped off by a three-pointer from McCalla at the buzzer to cut the deficit to 39-32 at the intermission.

The Lady Bears scored the first five points to start the third quarter to pull within 39-37, but B-CU scored the next seven points with five of them coming from the free throw line to push its lead to 46-37. A free throw from
Sydney Searcy brought Morgan State within 46-44 with 3:46 remaining in the third. But the host Lady Wildcats used a 13-5 spurt to end the quarter and take a 59-49 lead heading into the fourth.

Morgan State struggled to get anything going offensively in the final period, missing its first five shots, while going 4-for-18 from the floor and 0-for-8 from beyond the arc in the quarter.
B-CU had upped its cushion to 15 points (64-49), before the Lady Bears got on the board when Redd scored on a layup and converted the free throw at the 6:21 mark. The Lady Bears missed their next six field goal attempts, before Henson hit a jumper and added the free throw to complete the three-point play with 2:30 remaining, bringing Morgan State within 66-56.

The Lady Bears got as close as nine points three times with the last coming on a jumper by
KaMaree Donald with five seconds left for the final score.

Morgan State will return home for two games beginning with a MEAC contest against beltway rival Howard on Saturday, Jan. 18. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. The Lady Bears close out the home stand against defending MEAC regular season champion North Carolina A&T State on Monday, Jan. 20 at 5:30 p.m. Both games will be played at Hill Field House.

Howard (10-7, 2-2 MEAC) is coming off a 78-47 victory at home over South Carolina State on Monday, while N.C. A&T State (11-4, 3-0 MEAC) defeated Delaware State on the road, 69-45. Â
