Box Score

BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 3, 2019)-The Morgan State volleyball team hosted Siena in a rare weekday afternoon home match for the Lady Bears, and seemed to like the early start, as they defeated the visiting Saints, 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-18) in a non-conference match on Tuesday at Hill Field House.

The Lady Bears improved to 3-1 on the season with the win, while Siena dropped to 0-2. Morgan State, which is off to its best start since beginning the 1999 season at 3-1, also evened the all-time series against the Saints at 1-1.

Zoe McBride led the Lady Bears with a match-high 20 kills and added 10 digs to earn her third double-double of the season. McBride would hit for a match-high .432, as Morgan State collected 41 kills and had a .271 attack percentage as a team. Tylar Roberson (10 digs, nine kills) and Roi Wallace (match-high 35 assists and nine digs) both fell short of a double-double. Jennevy Santos totaled a match-best 12 digs for Morgan State.

The Saints, who were coming off a tough five-set loss at Coppin State on Sunday, were led by Nicole Deobler's 10 kills, .400 hitting percentage and two blocks. Maria Llinas finished with 23 assists and Madoka Weldon had a team-high 11 digs.

Siena finished the match with 30 kills on 101 attempts and 17 attack errors for a team hitting percentage of .129. Behind two blocks each by Abby Huffman and Doebler, the guests held a 5.0-1.0 blocking advantage over Morgan State for the match.

Morgan State had five service aces, but committed eight service errors. The Saints had two aces, both by Gracie Halley, but accounted for 10 service errors for the match.

The Lady Bears will take to the road for the first time this season, when they travel to Hackensack, N.J. to compete in the Knights Fall Classic (Sept. 6-7), hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson. Morgan State will begin on Friday, Sept. 6 with a 5:30 p.m. contest against the host Knights, before facing New Jersey Institute of Technology and Quinnipiac on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
