Men's Tennis rallies to beat Hofstra, 4-3

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Morgan State and Hofstra split the six singles matches, but the Bears won the doubles point in a 4-3 victory over Hofstra late Saturday night at Sportime Bethpage.

The Bears improved to 3-4 on the season, while handing Hofstra its first first dual match loss of the season.

"The guys played well and proved our depth," said MSU coach Matthew Townes. "We lost really tough matches at 1,2, and 3. After winning the doubles point and our first three fell, we were down 1-3 and on the brink of a loss. With the solid play of our team captain Arjun Ramakrishnan at No. 4, and cleaning up at 5 and 6, we pulled out the 4-3 win." 

Hoftra (3-1) opened singles play by posting wins in the first three flights. Marcus Smith posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Serhii Kharchev. Shawn Jackson followed with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Nihit Rawal that gave the Pride a 2-1 match lead. Coco Haener downed Sebastian Lopez, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 to put Hofstra up by two before Morgan State won each of the last three flights to take the match.

Arjun Ramakrishnan dispatched of Giacomo Pezzoli 6-3, 6-0. Oguzhan Ceyan recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win against Ryan Hardin, and Shrey Gupta wrapped the match with a hard fought 6-2, 7-5 victory over Julien Wolfe. 

The Bears took the doubles point as Rawal and Ceylan opened with a 7-5 win at the No. 3 flight, while Kharchev and Ramakrishnan posted a 6-4 win at the No. 2 flight.
