BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 7, 2019)-Ashia McCalla scored a career- game-high 31 points on 11-of-14 shooting and Dahnye Redd added 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting, as Morgan State earned a 113-34 non-conference victory over Notre Dame of Maryland on Friday evening at Hill Field House.
Chelsea Mitchell, who was playing in her first home game at Morgan State, since the 2016-17 season, recorded a double-double with 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting and a game-high 11 rebounds. Elaija Demeza came off the bench to score 12 points.
It was the first meeting between the two teams since Morgan State defeated Notre Dame of Maryland, 103-45 during the 1982-83 campaign. The Lady Bears now lead the all-time series against the Division III Gators, 4-0.
The 113 points are the third most scored by a Morgan State women's team, behind the school-record 123 the Lady Bears scored in a win over Cheyney () and the 115 points against the University of Baltimore (1/17/83). The 79-point margin of victory is the second largest win in school history behind the 82-point (102-20) victory over Coppin State (2/13/77).
Morgan State (1-1) began the second quarter scoring the first 15 points to increase its advantage to 42-11, following a three-pointer at the top of the key from Lana Skripkina with 5:50 left until halftime.Â
Ayana Brim, who scored all of the Gators' four points in the period, ended Morgan State's 15-0 run at the 5:38 mark, before scoring again with 2:07 left to play, ending an 8-0 spurt by the hosts, making it a 50-15 contest. The Lady Bears responded with a 7-0 run to take a 57-15 advantage into the lockerroom.Â
Notre Dame (0-1) was led by Brim, who finished with 11 points, while Ariana Alleyne added nine. Daija Fitchette pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and Jaylah Lewis dished out a team-best six assists.
Morgan State will close out its mini two-game homestand on Monday, Nov. 11, when it entertains the Washington Adventist Shock at 5:30 p.m. at Hill Field House.
