Bears Win in a Senior Day Blowout, 59-26

BALTIMORE, Md. (November 16, 2019) --  It was senior day for Morgan State's last home game of the season against Virginia-Lynchburg and the final game in Hughes Stadium ended in a convincing victory for the Bears.

After recognizing 15 senior football players who were competing in their final game, Morgan State (3-8, 2-5 MEAC) won in a 59-26 rout of Virginia University of Lynchburg 59-26 on a chilly and sunny Saturday afternoon.

"Some of these guys you wish you had them for another three years," said Morgan State head coach Tyrone Wheatley. "You wish you were here at the beginning of their careers. Just as well as their athleticism-- in who they are as football players. They're really good guys."

The Bears scored more than 50 points for the first time since 2011 when they defeated the North Carolina Central University Eagles 52-3.

Senior quarterback DeAndre Harris threw for 317 yards and five touchdowns against the 0-9 Dragons.

The last quarterback to throw for five touchdowns in a game for the Bears was Moses Skillon in a 69-7 win versus Delaware State.

Though it was a career day for Harris, he still feels he can improve his game.

"It wasn't what I wanted it to be," Harris said. "It's always room for improvement with me and the offense."

"Just getting the ball out quicker and seeing the defense quicker. Just gotta keep giving the ball to my playmakers," Harris added about what he can improve on.

Two of Harris' playmakers finished with 100 receiving yards versus the Dragons. Wesley Wolfolk finished the game with four receptions for 124 yards, including a pair of touchdowns.

Also for the fifth game this season, senior Manasseh Bailey finished with 100-plus receiving yards. Bailey caught five passes for 177 yards and four touchdowns.

After Bailey's performance, he became the leader for the most touchdown receptions in a season with 10. Bailey surpassed Ara Person who had eight in 1969.

In Bailey's final home game of the season, he was glad the team was able to come out with a win

"It was a lot of emotions coming out," Bailey. "You started four years with your friends playing on this field right here. It's senior year -- you want to leave out with a win."
