DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 18, 2019)-The Lady Bears stepped out of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division play on Friday to face MEAC Southern Division foe Bethune-Cookman (B-CU) in a MEAC contest at Moore Gymnasium.
It marked the first time since 2002 that Morgan State has paid a visit to the Florida school on its home floor. Morgan State won that matchup 3-0.
17 years later Morgan State would return to Bethune-Cookman and this time earn a 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-6) comeback win over the Lady Wildcats. The win ended a three-match losing skid for the Lady Bears, as well as a four-match losing streak to B-CU. Morgan State now leads the all-time series, 15-8.
Morgan State (9-11, 3-4 MEAC, 1-3 MEAC North) was led by Zoe McBride, who finished with a match-high 25 kills and added 15 digs to earn her 12th double-double of the season, while Tylar Roberson totaled 17 kills and had 17 digs to collect her sixth double-double of the season. Roi Wallace tallied a match-high 52 assists and Sophie Pajevic finished with 15 digs. Jennevy Santos notched a season-best 34 digs for Morgan State, which totaled 96 digs as a team.
Bethune-Cookman (6-15, 3-4 MEAC, 2-2 MEAC South), which dropped its fourth match out of its last five, was led by Bailey Robinson's 11 kills. Jordan Jefferson recorded a double-double with 10 kills and a team-high 24 digs. Ryleigh Taylor also had a double-double, collecting 37 assists and 13 digs. Miranda White and Shayla Eugene recorded 20 and 15 digs, respectively.Â
The Lady Bears will head to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on the Florida A&M (FAMU) Rattlers on Sunday, Oct. 20. First serve is at 1 p.m. at the Al Lawson Center. FAMU was dealt a 3-1 loss to visiting Coppin State on Friday. The loss to Coppin State was the Rattlers' first-ever in program history during the regular season.
