DURHAM, N.C. (Jan. 20, 2019)-The Morgan State women's basketball team will conclude its trip to the Old North State when it travels to Durham to face the North Carolina Central Eagles on Monday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. at McDougal-McLendon Arena. It will be the 16th meeting between the two programs with the Lady Bears holding a 10-5 all-time advantage.
 
BEAR CLAWS: The Lady Bears (4-15, 2-3 MEAC) enter their contest against North Carolina Central coming off a 62-29 loss at North Carolina A&T State on Saturday. Kayla Horn led the way with 11 points, while Naomi Bolasingh added 10 points. Elizabeth Sherrill grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Morgan State has been led by Coleman, who is averaging 16.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Ashia McCalla is averaging 8.6 points, while Bolasingh is scoring 8.1 points.
 
EAGLE SCRATCHES: North Carolina Central (4-14, 0-3 MEAC) ended a three-game losing skid with a 62-57 victory over Coppin State on Saturday. NCCU trailed by as much as 14 points and outscored Coppin State 23-11 in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback. Zaria Atkins scored a team-high 13 points, while Rodneysha Martin came off the bench to score a team-high 13 points. Paulina Afriye recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Martin is averaging 15.8 points in 10 games played. Afriyie has a team-best 9.1 rebounds to go with 13.1 points a game.
 
MSU VS. NCCU SERIES NOTES: Morgan State leads the all-time series, 10-5. Last season the Lady Bears had their three-game winning streak over North Carolina Central snapped, following a 60-57 loss in Durham (1/15).
 
NEXT UP: Morgan State will return home to face the Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman on Saturday, Jan. 26. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. at Hill Field House.
 
COLEMAN EARNS COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS HONOR: Adre'onia Coleman was named Madness Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday, Jan. 14 by the staff of College Sports Madness. Coleman averaged a double-double of 20.5 points and 11.5 rebounds last week to lead the Lady Bears. Coleman began the week scoring a game-high 24 points, while pulling down a game-high 15 rebounds, including 11 defensive against Savannah State (1/7). She then scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Lady Bears past South Carolina State (1/12).
 
LADY BEARS HELD TO SEASON-LOW IN SCORING: Morgan State was held to a season-low 29 points in Saturday's loss at North Carolina A&T. The Lady Bears were limited to five points in the opening period and shot 22-of-54 (22 percent) from the field and went just 3-for-12 from the free throw line.  
 
FAITHFUL EIGHT: With the dismissal of three players prior to the start of the season due to conduct detrimental to the team, two players sitting out due to NCAA transfer rules and a fourth player removing herself from the team after just three games, the Lady Bears have gone into battle each game with eight strong and dedicated players. Despite a tough non-conference schedule and the shortage of numbers, the Lady Bears have fought in every game and have picked up their play since the start of the MEAC schedule.
 
STILL SEARCHING: The Lady Bears are still in search of their first road victory of the season, following their loss at North Carolina A&T (1/19). Morgan State, which is 0-8 in true road games this season and a combined 0-11 away from Hill Field House, will get another shot when it faces North Carolina Central (1/21).
 
LADY BEARS PICKUP BACK-TO-BACK WINS: Morgan State recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season, following victories over Savannah State (1/7) and South Carolina State (1/12). It was the Lady Bears' first two-game winning streak since Feb. 10-12, 2018, following road wins at Savannah State (2/10) and Florida A&M (2/12).
 
COLEMAN NAMED MEAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Senior guard/forward Adre'onia Coleman was named MEAC Player of the Week (1/8). It was her second MEAC weekly honor this season for Coleman, who also earned the award (11/20). The Baltimore native averaged a double-double for the week, recording 21 points and 14.5 rebounds per contest to help the Lady Bears to a 1-1 week. Coleman began the week with 18 points and 14 rebounds to go with two assists, two steals and a block against Maryland Eastern Shore (1/5). She then dropped a game-high 24 points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds in a win over Savannah State (1/7). It was her third straight double-double and sixth of the season.
 
COLEMAN RECORDS SIXTH DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Adre'onia Coleman picked up her third straight and sixth overall double-double of the season in win over Savannah State (1/7). Coleman would score a game-high 24 points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds. The Baltimore native would also add two assists in 38 minutes of play.
 
FARWELL: The Lady Bears' win over Savannah State (1/7) marked the final meeting in Baltimore between the two programs as members of the MEAC. Savannah State will leave the conference and return to the Division II level at the end of the 2018-19 academic calendar. Morgan State and the Lady Tigers will square off one final time during the regular season in their annual 'Orange & Blue' battle on Monday, Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m. at Tiger Arena in Savannah, Ga.

DAVIS RECORDS VICTORY No. 370: Morgan State head coach Ed Davis Jr. recorded career coaching victory 370, following the Lady Bears' win over UMass Lowell (12/29). Davis, who is in his seventh season with the Lady Bears and third as head coach, has an overall record of 372-294. He has guided his teams to a total of four NCAA Tournament appearances, while at Bowie State (3) and Delaware State (1) and two Division II Sweet 16 appearances.
 
COLEMAN HAS CAREER DAY: Senior Adre'onia Coleman scored a career-high 26 points in the Lady Bears' loss to UMBC (12/20). The 5-foot-10 forward, shot 8-of-16 from the floor, while adding six rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block against the Retrievers.
 
DAVIS A THREE-TIME HALL OF FAMER: Morgan State head coach Ed Davis Jr. was inducted into his third Hall of Fame in September 2017, when his 2006-07 Delaware State women's basketball team was inducted for capturing the 2007 MEAC title. Davis was also inducted into the Bowie State University Hall of Fame in 2014 as a coach, where he guided the Lady Bulldogs to three CIAA titles and a pair of Division II "Sweet 16" appearances and in 2008 he was inducted into the West Virginia State University Hall of Fame as a basketball player.
