Morgan State Falters Late in 72-68 Defeat to S.C. State

BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 12, 2019) --  The Morgan State men's basketball team fell to South Carolina State, 72-68, Saturday afternoon at Hill Field House.

With the defeat, the Bears drop to 6-10 overall, 1-2 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play, while the Bulldogs improve to 3-15, 1-1 in conference play.

Junior guard Stanley Davis had a career-performance for the Bears. The
Chester (Pa.) product scored a career-high 28 points on 10 of 21 shooting from the field, and coupled it with a career-high 19 of the Bears' 41 rebounds.

Senior guard Martez Cameron chipped in 14 points (6-8 FG) with four assists.

The Bulldogs led 44-27 at halftime and were up by double figures for most of the second half until Morgan State reduced the deficit to 64-57 on Kyson Rawls' 3-pointer with 4:56 left. Malik Miller made a pair of foul shots cutting the Bulldogs' lead to 64-61 but Morgan State couldn't get closer.

Jahmari Etienne scored 15 of his 18 team-high points in the first half, while Ian Kinard scored 15 and Lavar Harewood added 10 to help hold off the Bears.


The Bulldogs buried 11 of 23 3-pointers and scored 16 points off Morgan State's 19 turnovers.

SCSU, which shot 60 percent (9-15 3FG) from the three in the first half, was limited to just 2 of 8 from long range in the second half.

Morgan State travels to Washington, D.C. for a 7:30 p.m. matchup Monday against the Howard Bison (7-10, 1-2).
