KENT, Ohio (Aug. 31, 2018)-The Morgan State volleyball team rebounded from its loss earlier in the day to Purdue Fort Wayne, by handing Niagara a 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-19) loss on Friday evening in the second match of the Golden Flashes Classic at the M.A.C. Center on the campus of Kent State.

Morgan State improved to 2-4 on the season, while keeping the Purple Eagles of Niagara (0-4) winless on the season. The Lady Bears' victory also improved them to a perfect 13-0 all-time against the Purple Eagles.

Offensively the Lady Bears were led by
Cristen Coryatt, who finished with a match-high 11 kills to go with 11 digs.
Kalysia Bates had nine kills and
Zoe McBride recorded seven kills and had nine digs.
Jasmin Hubbard tallied 11 digs, while
Roi Wallace had a match-high 35 assists to go with seven digs.

Morgan State would finish the match with a hitting percentage of .295, behind Wallace, who had five kills with no errors and hit for a .714.
Monette Daniels also had five kills and no errors and had a hitting percentage of .625. Daniels would also lead the Lady Bears in blocks with a match-high three, to help the Lady Bears to a 7.0-3.0 blocking advantage over Niagara.

The Purple Eagles were led by Mary Redl's team high eight kills. Jaycie Roberts had a match-high 13 digs and seven kills. Jessica Streuer had 16 assists and Mirna Kovacevic added 10.

In Set 1, Morgan State turned a one-point deficit into a nine-point advantage, following a 10-0 run by the Lady Bears to give them a 22-13 lead. Niagara would get four straight points to cut into Morgan State's lead and make it a 23-18 contest. But the Lady Bears would score the final two points needed for the 25-18 win.

Bates recorded a set-high four kills and had a hitting percentage of .667, while Wallace added three kills on three attempts for a 1.000 attack percentage in the set. As a team, Morgan State would hit for a .323 in the opening set, recording 13 kills.

In Set 2, Morgan State appeared to be well on its way to taking a 2-0 lead. But the Lady Bears would have to battle some adversity first. Morgan State led 22-16 when Niagara went on to score five straight points and pull within a point at 22-21. The Purple Eagles would later tie the score at 24 all, but would never reclaim the lead. Morgan State would end the set with back-to-back kills by Brooke Adams and McBride for the 26-24 victory. The Lady Bears would finish with 16 kills in the set and hit for a set-high .333.

The Lady Bears used a 7-1 run, capped off by an ace from Bates, to give Morgan State a 20-9 lead in the third set. Niagara scored four straight in the midst of 6-1 run to get within 23-19, but Morgan State ended the set and match with back-to-back blocks. Bates and McBride combined on the first one and Bates and Adams teamed together on the next point to end the contest.

Morgan State finished the match with 45 kills and collected 52 digs. McBride would lead the Lady Bears with four service aces, as Morgan State finished with eight, but also had eight service errors.

The Lady Bears close out the Golden Flashes Classic on Saturday, Sept. 1 against host Kent State. First serve is at noon. The Golden Flashes (3-2) were swept (25-10, 25-6, 25-16) on Friday night by Purdue Fort Wayne.
