BALTIMORE, Md. (March 28, 2018)-The Lady Bears got a hard fought win on Tuesday, March 27, when they defeated host Saint Joseph's University, 4-3. It was a close, non-conference contest in which the Morgan State women's tennis team came out successful, improving its winning streak to four straight matches.
Starting off with doubles, the Lady Bears (5-9) got a good start with junior

Dana Santiago winning at No. 3 doubles. At No. 1 doubles, Morgan State fell just short, dropping the match 6-7. The Lady Bears clinched the doubles point at No. 2 through senior
Danielle Thompson and sophomore
Peggy Rooke, winning 7-5 in the tiebreaker.
Moving into singles, the Lady Bears and the Lady Hawks traded points back and forth. St. Joseph's captured wins at number one, four, and five singles. The Lady Bears came out on top on number three and six singles to even out the match. With a score of 3-3, it all came down to number two singles. Freshman
Alexus Gill then captured the win for Morgan State in a three set match, winning with a score of 7-6, 5-7, 6-0.
"It was a hard fought win today in a hostile environment and not ideal weather," said Morgan State head coach Matt Townes. "The doubles point proved to be crucial for us and I am glad that we came out on top."
The Lady Bears (5-9) will be back in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) action on Saturday, March 31 when they face the Lady Pirates of Hampton in a MEAC Northern Division match in Hampton, Va.
