BALTIMORE, Md. -- Trailing by 14 points in the first half, Morgan State appeared headed for a fifth straight loss to the Tigers since 2013.
However, this Morgan State team doesn't have the type of players that go away easily.
Freshman Sherwyn Devonish-Prince scored a career-high 19 points and senior Martez Cameron added 14 points to rally for a 74-69 victory over Towson on Saturday in the Charm City Classic at Royal Farms Arena.
David Syfax added 10 for Morgan State (4-5).
Devonish-Prince was 8 for 17 from the field, including 3 for 4 on 3-pointers, and Cameron was 6 for 10 from the field as Morgan State won the 30th all-time meeting between the Maryland schools and Towson (2-7) leads the series 16-14.
"I thought Martez was a warrior, and Sherwyn Devonish did a great job," Bears coach Todd Bozeman said. "Sherwyn kept us within arms reach in the game and Tez was doing a great job with getting the ball into the paint and moving the ball around and getting his teammates involved. And Dave did a great job on the boards [6 rebs] for us.
"It was a team effort and it's been that way all year and we're just happy about that."
Brian Fobbs had 16 points and nine rebounds and Tobias Howard added 11 for the Tigers who extended to a 3-game losing streak.
Bozeman spoke about the significance of the defensive pressure that forced the Tigers into committing 21 turnovers.
"It's very significant because we're smaller," said Bozeman. "Having teams just go into the half court and run their offense and throw it in to the big guys... We have to play that way. That's what we focus on. Basketball, and any sport, is a battle of wills. You play your way, the other team plays their way. The team that does it the best is the team that will come out on top. That's just how it is."
Syfax gave Morgan State the lead three times in the final four minutes. His bucket in the paint gave the Bears the lead for good, 69-67 with 1:08 remaining. After Morgan State's Isaiah Burke scored on the fast break for a 73-69 lead with 11 seconds remaining, the Bears forced a turnover then Cameron made one of two free throws to close out the scoring.
This game wrapped up a stretch of five games in 14 days. The Bears have some time before they return to the hardwood when they host Wilmington (Del.) on Dec. 17.
