B-CU runs by Morgan State, hangs on for 30-28 win

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 3, 2018) -- Jimmie Robinson carried the ball 11 times for a career-high 208 yards and three touchdowns , helping the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats hang on for a 30-28 victory over Morgan State on a chilly Saturday night at Hughes Stadium.

Jabari Dunham chipped in 57 yards rushing and Tupac Isme added 42 yards and a score for the Wildcats (5-5, 3-2 MEAC) who snapped a two-game losing skid with a tough battle against the host Bears.

The matchup was the 31st meeting between the two schools. Bethune-Cookman now leads the overall series 24-7 and have a seven-game winning streak against the Bears since 2010.

Morgan State (2-7, 1-4) made a change at quarterback for this game by giving true freshman Tyler Holley the start. However, after a couple of false start penalties and a safety, Holley would be replaced in the lineup by redshirt freshman Dion "DJ" Golatt.

The Wildcats held a 9-0 lead after a 61-yard TD run by Jimmie Robinson in the first quarter.

The Bears attempted to respond when Golatt connected with Manasseh Bailey on a 64-yard pass to setup the Bears on Bethune's 16.

Morgan State failed to capitalize on the good field position and saw Alex Raya's 37-yard field goal attempt blocked by Tydarius Peters.

The Wildcats extended their lead on a 60-yard run by Robinson -- his second TD of the game. The Bears trailed 16-0 in the second quarter.

The Bears finally got on the scoreboard with 30 seconds remaining in the half. Golatt found Bailey again, but this time for a 28-yard touchdown strike. Golatt's shovel pass to Mujahid Fricke on a two- point conversion helped cut B-CU's lead to 16-8 at the break.

Robinson struck again midway through the third quarter when he broke a draw play for 65-yards to give himself his third score of the game. The Wildcats held a comfortable 23-8 lead.

A  2-yard TD run by Golatt trimmed the 'Cats lead to 23-15 late in the third quarter.

The Bears continued their momentum into the fourth quarter. Golatt tossed his second TD of the game when he hooked up with tight end Xavier Gravette for a 15-yard score. The Bears two-point try was no good as they trailed 23-21 with 13:33 remaining in the game.

Both teams posted key scores in the fourth quarter but with a slim 30-28 lead, the 'Cats defense forced an interception on the Bears potential game winning drive with 45.8 seconds remaining to seal the game.

Golatt had one of the best performances by a Bear this season. The redshirt-freshman threw completed 19 of 39 passes for 257 yards and tossed three touchdowns. The Wildcats' defense also sacked him six times and recorded an interception.

Bailey finished the night with a game-high five catches for 129 yards (25.8 avg) and a score.

The Wildcats had 314 yards rushing, while the Bears run-first offense was limited to 81 yards on 32 attempts.
