BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 7, 2018)-Morgan State closes out its three-game homestand on Monday against the Savannah State Tigers. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m. at Hill Field House. The Lady Bears, who are a perfect 7-0 at Hill Field House this season, will look to extend their eight-game winning streak at home, dating back to last season, before playing its next three games on the road.
 
BEAR CLAWS: Morgan State (9-6, 2-0 MEAC) is riding a three-game winning streak after defeating Florida A&M, 61-56 on Saturday. Tykyrah Williams finished with a game-high 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to lead Morgan State. Braennan Farrar finished with 13 points and had a game-high six assists, as the Lady Bears improved to 7-0 at home this season. Lexus Spears has paced the Lady Bears with 14.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Farrar is scoring 12.1 points and leads the team in assists (59) and steals (43). Tykyrah Williams is adding 10.1 points, while Adre'onia Coleman is contributing 9.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per outing.
 
TIGER STRIPES: Savannah State (2-10, 0-1 MEAC) dropped its sixth straight on Saturday, with its 66-57 loss at Coppin State. Kaylee Allen scored a game-high 18 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had four assists. Teyah Johnson came off the bench to score 10 points and recorded a team-high three steals. The Lady Tigers have been led by Kaylee Allen, who is averaging 12.8 points per game. Donasja Scott is adding 11 points and 6.2 rebounds and has a team-high 21 steals. Alexxus Sowell leads the team in rebounding with 7.1 per game and has a team-leading 16 blocked shots. Savannah State is averaging 50.6 points per game and giving up 80.7 per contest.
 
MORGAN STATE VS. SAVANNAH STATE SERIES NOTES: Savannah State leads the series, 6-5. The two teams split last season's regular season series, each winning on their home floor. The Tigers then defeated Morgan State by a score of 59-51 in the opening round of the MEAC Tournament (3/7/17).
 
NEXT UP: Morgan State will take to the road for the first time in 2018, when it heads to North Carolina to take on both North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central. The Lady Bears will face the Aggies of NC A&T on Saturday, Jan. 13 in Greensboro, N.C., before traveling over to Durham, N.C. to take over NCCU on Monday, Jan. 15.
  
NOT UP IN HERE: The Lady Bears remained unbeaten at Hill Field House this season, when it defeated Florida A&M, 61-56 on Saturday to improve to 7-0 at home with the win. Morgan State will look to improve to 8-0 at home this season when it entertains Savannah State on Jan. 8.
 
DAVIS EARNS 360TH VICTORY: Morgan State head coach Ed Davis secured his 360th career coaching victory, following the Lady Bears' 63-50 win over Maryland Eastern Shore in the MEAC opener on Wednesday, Jan. 3. Davis, who is in his sixth season with the Lady Bears and second as head coach, has guided his teams to a total of four NCAA Tournament appearances, while at Bowie State (3) and Delaware State (1) and two Division II Sweet 16 appearances. He currently has an overall record of 361-270.
 
HOLD UM UNDER 60 POINTS: During the Lady Bears current three-game winning streak, Morgan State has held their opponents to under 60 points in each of those wins. The Lady Bears are a perfect 8-0 this season when holding their opponents under 60 points. Of those eight victories, twice (Lincoln-Pa. and Central Connecticut) the Lady Bears surrendered an opponent low 41 points.
 
SPEARS NAMED MEAC CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK: MSU senior forward Lexus Spears was named MEAC Co-Player of the Week by the league office on Tuesday, Jan. 2. It was the second MEAC honor for Spears this season, who was named MEAC Player of the Week on Dec. 5, 2017. Spears scored a game-high 21 points on 10-of-12 shooting to lead the Lady Bears to a 65-59 win at UMass Lowell (12/28). Spears also added seven rebounds, an assist and a steal in the victory, which gave Morgan State its first non-conference winning record at 7-6, since the 2008-09 team went 8-4 during non-conference play.
 
SPEARS EARNS 3RD MADNESS HONOR: Lexus Spears was named Madness Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week (1/1) by the staff of College Sports Madness. It was the third honor this season for Spears, who also received the honor on Dec. 4 and Dec. 11. A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Spears finished with 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a 65-59 win at UMass Lowell (12/28).
 
FARRAR ON THE RISE: Braennan "BeBe" Farrar continues to make her move up several of Morgan State's statistical charts. Farrar currently ranks fourth all-time at Morgan State in assists with 317. The St. Louis, Mo. native recorded four steals against Florida A&M (1/8) and moved into fourth-place all-time in steals at Morgan State with 211. Farrar also ranks seventh in scoring with 1,391 points. 
 
A NEW SEASON: What a difference a year makes. Last season the Lady Bears finished the 2016-17 campaign with a 9-21 mark. This year, Morgan State head coach Ed Davis Jr. has already guided the Lady Bears to nine wins through their first 15 games. A year ago the Lady Bears didn't record their ninth win until the 29th game of the season, a 66-62 road victory at Maryland Eastern Shore on March 2, 2017.
