Morgan State Drops MEAC Opener At Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 29, 2017)-The Morgan State volleyball team returned to action on Friday evening following a 13-day layoff and dropped a 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 26-24) decision to host Hampton at Holland Hall. It was the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division opener for both teams.
 
Morgan State (1-13, 0-1 MEAC) dropped its second straight to the Lady Pirates in Hampton and now holds a 40-9 all-time series lead.
 
Hampton (6-11, 1-0 MEAC) extended its season-long winning streak to four straight and improved to 2-0 at home this season.
 
Reeana Richardson totaled a match-high 11 kills and added three digs, while her sister Ravyn Richardson also tallied a match-high 11 kills and added two digs and a block to lead the Lady Pirates. Maja Petronijevic finished with a match-high 20 digs and Lena Washington collected 10 digs. Lena Reed-Petracek and Mallory Beard split the duties at setter, each recording 18 assists.
 
Morgan State was led by Mykaela Ross, who finished with a team-high eight kills to go with five digs, an assist and a service ace. Keana Browne added seven kills, three digs and three blocks and Jasmin Hubbard recorded 12 digs. Roi Wallace finished with 23 assists, giving her 1,141 for her career and is now 81 assists shy from moving into ninth all-time at Morgan State.    
 
The Lady Pirates finished the match with 43 kills and a hitting percentage of .156, while Morgan State totaled 30 kills and had a .102 hitting percentage.
 
The Lady Bears will visit the Norfolk State Spartans on Sunday, Oct. 1 for a MEAC contest at 3 p.m. at Gill Gymnasium. Norfolk State was defeated by visiting Coppin State in four sets on Friday. Fans can follow Sunday's match by clicking either the live stats or video links.
