GREENSBORO, N.C. (August 26, 2017)-Morgan State's
Cristen Coryatt fell shy of a double-double, finishing with a match-high 12 kills and adding nine digs, but it wasn't enough. The Lady Bears would fall to the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG), 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-21) on Saturday afternoon at Fleming Gymnasium on Day 2 of the Spartan-Demon Deacon Classic.

Roi Wallace recorded 24 assists and
Jasmin Hubbard totaled 14 digs for the Lady Bears, who fell to 0-5 all-time against the host Spartans.

UNCG (2-0) used a 5-1 run to turn a 12-8 advantage into a 17-9 lead in the opening set. Morgan State would respond with three straight points to cut the deficit to 17-12. However, the Spartans would close out the set scoring eight of the last 11 points to earn a 25-15 victory.

Morgan State (0-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in Set 2 and held a 5-4 lead, before UNCG went on a 12-6 spurt to take 16-11 lead. The Lady Bears regrouped and scored four consecutive points to pull within 16-15. The Spartans would counter with a 6-1 spurt to increase their lead to 22-16.
Morgan would not go away, using a 6-2 run to get within 24-22, but would fall 25-22.

Set 3 was back-and-forth and featured 13 lead changes. Morgan State took a 17-16 lead on a service ace by the Spartans. UNCG would score the next seven straight points to go up 23-17. Morgan State would not go away, scoring four straight to get within 23-21, before falling 25-21. Â

The Spartans were led by Megan Moran's seven kills. Allison Penner tallied a double-double with 32 assists and 11 digs. Christina Gregory had 14 digs and Grace Howell added 12 digs to help the Spartans record 60 digs for the match.
