BALTIMORE, Md. (April 29, 2017)-Morgan State senior outfielder Kate Vosper might very well be the Coppin State killer at the plate.
Last season, with one out and two strikes, Vosper hit a three-run homer over the right field fence at CSU Softball Field in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Morgan State a 6-5 win. The victory sent Morgan State into the league tournament, while also eliminating Coppin State. The Lady Bears were the home team that series due to poor field conditions at Morgan's Lois T. Murray Field.
On Saturday the North Delta, British Columbia native was at it again, as she hit a two-out, two-run triple in the top of the seventh inning to give the visiting Lady Bears a 4-3 comeback win over rival Coppin State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) doubleheader at CSU Softball Field. Coppin State won the first game, 6-2.
The win helped Morgan State (23-15, 12-2 MEAC) move closer to setting the school record for wins (25) and put pressure on the Eagles to have to win Sunday's series finale in order to secure the fourth and final spot in the northern division and advance to next month's league tournament.
Junior pitcher Amy Begg went 1-1 on the day to improve her MEAC leading record to 20-8 on the season and move one win away from tying the school record for wins as a pitcher. It is just the second time ever a Morgan State pitcher has reached 20 wins. The record of 21 wins was set by Kia Purvis in 1998.
The loss however dropped the Lady Bears out of first-place in the league standings, as Hampton took over sole possession of first after sweeping both games of their doubleheader against Norfolk State.
