Volleyball Puts Winning Streak On The Line Friday At MDES

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 3 2017)-The Morgan State volleyball team will put its two-match winning streak on the line this Friday, Nov. 3, when it travels to Princess Anne, Md. to take on division leader the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (MDES). First serve for this Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division contest is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Hytche Athletic Center.

Friday's contest will be the 64th all-time meeting between the two teams with Morgan State holding a 42-21 series advantage. MDES has won four of the last five meetings, including a 3-2 victory (21-25, 25-19, 23-25, 27-25, 15-10) earlier this season at Hill Field House (10/13).

Morgan State (5-16, 4-4 MEAC) is coming off a 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-12) sweep of visiting Norfolk State (10/29) in its annual Dig Pink contest. Natashia Barker totaled a match-high 11 kills and a match-high 10 digs to record her sixth double-double of the season. Cristen Coryatt and Keana Browne each added eight kills, as the Lady Bears hit .268 as a team. Roi Wallace tallied 25 assists and added eight digs, while Jasmin Hubbard collected seven digs.

Browne earned MEAC Co-Player of the Week honors, while Mykaela Ross was named MEAC Co-Rookie of the Week.  

Maryland Eastern Shore (22-7, 8-0 MEAC), has won eight of its last nine matches and moved one step closer to wrapping up the northern division title, following its 3-2 (29-31, 25-15, 25-22, 21-25, 15-12) victory over defending champion Howard

Iva Vujosevic was one of four Lady Hawks to record a double-double against Howard. Vujosevic finished with 13 kills and added 11 digs to go with a team-high three service aces. Lucia Babic tallied 12 kills and had a team-high 16 digs and Rachel Kayongo added 11 kills and 10 digs. Carolina Machado collected 33 assists and 11 digs. Maja Jankovic added 15 digs and Mere Serea had a match-high five blocks in the win. 

As a team the Lady Hawks had 57 kills and hit for a .196, while totaling 77 digs, 51 assists and 14 assisted blocks.
