Volleyball Closes Out Regular Season With Victory Over Rival Coppin On Senior Day, 3-1

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 12, 2017)-The Morgan State volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 3-1 (21-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-16) Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division victory over crosstown rival Coppin State on Sunday afternoon at Hill Field House.

The match was also Senior Day for fellow seniors Keana Browne and Michaela Collins, who were playing in their last home match for Morgan State at Hill Field House. Browne would finish with five kills and a dig, while Collins also added five kills, hit for a .333, had six digs, a service ace and two blocks.

Morgan State (8-17, 7-5 MEAC) avenged an earlier loss this season at Coppin State and improved to 62-11 all-time against Coppin State. The win also helped the Lady Bears complete their second half turnaround by going 5-1 in their last six league games after beginning the conference slate with a 2-4 mark.

The Lady Bears also extended their season-long winning streak to three matches and finished the regular season in third-place in the northern division standings.

Cristen Coryatt led the Lady Bears' offense with a team-high 14 kills, while Natashia Barker recorded her ninth double-double of the season, finishing with 12 kills and 14 digs. Monette Daniels, who hit for a career- and match-best .529 attack percentage, totaled nine kills. Jasmine Hubbard finished the match with a career- and match-high 24 digs and Roi Wallace tallied a match-high 43 assists and added nine digs, falling shy of a double-double. Wallace moved into sixth-place all-time at Morgan State with 1,558 career assists.

Coppin State (4-26, 4-8 MEAC) was led by Asia Stennis, who finished with a match-high 19 kills and Mariena Guice added 10 kills and 11 digs. Dominigue Madarang had 39 assists and Glorines Rosado had a team-high 19 digs for the Eagles.

The Lady Bears will now wait for the official final standings and seedings, as they prepare for the upcoming MEAC Championship held this Friday, Nov. 17 through Sunday, Nov. 19 at the Hytche Athletic Center on the campus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Md.
