Howard Spoils Lady Bears’ Home Opener, 3-1

BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 5, 2017)-The Morgan State volleyball team finally played inside the friendly confines of Hill Field House on Wednesday night after playing its first 15 contests on the road. Unfortunately, the Lady Bears would drop their home opener to Howard, 3-1 (25-9, 25-19, 21-25, 25-15) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division contest.
 
The win would be Howard's fourth straight over Morgan State and seventh in the last eight meetings. The Lady Bears would fall to 2-14 overall and 1-2 in the MEAC, while Howard improved to 5-13, 2-1 MEAC.
 
Morgan State was led by Mykaela Ross, who finished with a season-high 10 kills and added six digs and a service ace. Keana Browne added nine kills and Monette Daniels and Natashia Barker each had six. Roi Wallace totaled a double-double with 33 assists and had a career- and match-high 16 digs. Jasmin Hubbard tallied 13 digs and Barker added 11.
 
Howard collected 51 kills on 123 attack attempts and had 17 errors for an attack percentage of .276 for the match, including a set-best .444 in the opening set when the Lady Bison had 13 kills on 27 attempts and just one error. Howard would also record a set-high 15 kills and hit for .414 in the fourth set.
 
Morgan State finished with 36 kills on 135 attack attempts and had 27 errors for an .067 attack percentage. The Lady Bears had a set-best 15 kills in the third set and finished with an attack percentage of .250.
 
Reigning MEAC Player of the Year Khaila Donaldson was one of three Lady Bison to record double-doubles on the night. Donaldson finished with a team-best 13 kills and 12 digs, while adding two service aces and an assist. Tamia Dockery totaled a match-high 36 assists and had a match-high 16 digs. Dockery would also add four kills and had a .571 attack percentage. Jurnee Tipton collected 14 digs to go with 11 kills and Kira Porter hit for a match-high .647 and totaled 12 kills.
 
The Lady Bears will be off the rest of the week and will return from a nine-day layoff on Friday, Oct. 13 when they host the Lady Hawks of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. First serve is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Hill Field House. On Sunday, Oct. 15 Morgan State will hold its annual homecoming match against Delaware State at 3 p.m. The Lady Bears' 1992 MEAC Championship team will be honored during the contest.
