GAME TIME
• Morgan State will head to Washington, D.C. to face its Beltway rival the Howard Bison. The match-up will kick off in Greene Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 21st at 1 p.m. and will be televised by SPORTSFever Television. The game will mark Howard's Homecoming.
• The Bears enter the 2017 season under the leadership of Fred T. Farrier who had the interim tag removed and assumed the full-time position as MSU's head football coach.
• MSU improved to 1-5 with a 48-28 homecoming win last weekend against Savannah State. Howard routed Delaware State 52-23 last Saturday in Dover (Del.) and improved to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

• Morgan State's season-high 48 points vs. Savannah State was the most points scored by the Bears since defeating Delaware State at Hughes Stadium by a score of 69-7 on Nov. 22, 2014.

Jai Franklin was named to the 2016 All-MEAC Second Team as a junior. Franklin was a force on the Bears' defensive line where he finished the 2016 season with 50 stops, 13.0 TFL and four sacks.

Carl Garnes was a standout for the Bears secondary a season ago. The Columbus, N.J. native was named to the 2016 All-MEAC Third Team and garnered 35 tackles and a pair of INTs in 10 games played.

THE SERIES
• Saturday's matchup marks the 71st meeting between the two schools.
• The Bears lead the overall series 43-26-1 since 1931.
• Morgan State posted a 28-24 victory in the last meeting in Baltimore in 2016.
• The Bears fell 28-14 in their last visit to Greene Stadium on Oct. 26, 2013 in Washington, D.C.
A GLANCE AT THE BISON
• Howard finished 2016 with an overall mark of 2-9 and finished 2-6 in MEAC play in Gary "Flea" Harrell's last season as the Bison's head coach.
• HU scored 35 points in the second half to dominate Delaware State, 52-23, last Saturday at Alumni Stadium during the Hornet Homecoming celebration. The Bison improved to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
• Head coach Mike London's (Richmond, '82) offense is averaging 449.5 yards of total offense (217.7 rushing; 231.8 passing). They have scored 16 rushing TDs and seven passing. The Bison average 4.9 yards per rush and 9.3 per pass, including 17.4 per catch.
• HU's offense is led by freshman and league sensation QB Caylin Newton. The 5-11, 195-pound Atlanta (Ga.) product has completed 76-of-141 passes (53.9%) for 1,319 yards, with 7 TDs and 8 INTs. He also leads the Bison ground attack with 89 carries for 479 yards and 7 TDs. He ranks No. 1 in the MEAC in total offense at 299.7 yards per game.
• RB Anthony Philyaw is averaging 73 rushing yards with four TDs. The 6-1, 205 pound senior has 438 yards on 83 carries (5.63avg) and has eight receptions for 100 yards and a TD.
• Kyle Anthony (6-3, 185), Jequez Ezzard (5-9, 185) and Guy Lemonier Jr. (6-0, 195) lead the Bison air attack. Anthony has 18 catches for 323 yards (17.9 avg) and 3 TDS, and Ezzard has 10 ctaches for 319 yards and a TD. Lemonier has 236 yards on 15 receptions, including a TD.
• HU is allowing 469.2 yards of total offense (rushing 249.2; passing 220.0). The Bison have also forced 8 turnovers (INT; 7 FR). Opponents are averaging 6.6 yards per play. The Bison have recorded 32 TFL.
• HU's D is led by r-senior linebacker Devon Rollins and senior safety LeLand Lassiter. Rollins, (5-11, 240) ranks No. 12 in the league with 41 tackles (6.8 pg), while Lassiter (5-9, 190) ranks T-No. 13 with 40 stops.
• HU has one of the best kick return specialists in the league in Guy Lemonier. The Miami, Fla. native is ranked No. 3 in the league by averaging 22.2 yards on 12 returns.
• HU's Tye Freeland (5-11, 175) leads the league with three forced fumbles from his free safety position.

Malachi Washington currently ranks in the T-No. 9 in the FCS in tackles for loss (10.5), and T-24 in sacks (5.0).
Tra' Revell is tied for No. 1 in the nation with 3 blocks.

• The Bears rank T-No. 3 in blocked kicks (4).
• The Bears rank No. 14 in passing yards allowed (168.3).
• The Bears rank No. 40 in pass efficiency defense (120.60).
