Wagner Promoted To Deputy Athletic Director

BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 31, 2017)-Morgan State Athletic Director Edward Scott today has announced the promotion of Erlease Wagner as Deputy Athletic Director.

"I look forward to the opportunity to serve as the Deputy Athletic Director and have a positive impact on the welfare and success of Morgan State student-athletes," said Wagner. "I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as a member of the athletic department's senior management team and look forward to working closely with Ed Scott to implement his plans for the future of Morgan Athletics."

In addition to her current duties, Wagner will add oversight of strength and conditioning, sports medicine, nutrition, and will be the sport administrator for volleyball and tennis, while assisting athletic director Scott with day to day operations of the athletic department.

Wagner, who is in her second year at Morgan State, served for several months as the interim director of athletics, following the retirement of former Morgan State athletic director, Floyd Kerr, until the hiring of Scott in October of 2016.

"As the Interim Director of Athletics, Erlease did a tremendous job and has proven herself to be a valuable asset in my short time at Morgan State," said Scott. "Erlease is a tireless worker who cares deeply about the well-being of our student-athletes. Expanding her role within our department will allow us to better serve the needs of our coaches, staff and student-athletes."

Wagner first joined the Morgan State athletic department on October 28, 2015, when she was named Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and the Senior Woman Administrator (SWA).

Prior to coming to Morgan State, Wagner spent eight years as the Director of Athletic Compliance at Syracuse University. She took over the position on July 1, 2007 after serving on an interim basis since August 2006. Wagner first joined Syracuse's Office of Compliance in November 2000 as a compliance assistant. In 2001, she was promoted to compliance coordinator. Two years later, Wagner was promoted again, this time to the position of assistant director.

While at Syracuse, Wagner was responsible for coordinating and maintaining the University's compliance program and managing the operation of the office of athletic compliance. Her duties included developing and maintaining effective operation procedures and administrative systems to insure proper institutional compliance; directing an education program on NCAA regulations; serving as a resource for the community on athletic-related regulations; coordinating and directing the University's athletic policies and procedures for responding to rules violations; monitoring eligibility and financial aid for student-athletes; and serving as the compliance liaison to the NCAA, ECAC, BIG EAST, and ACC Conference offices.

Prior to her stint at Syracuse, Wagner served as eligibility assistant at the University of Michigan and as a compliance intern at the University of Maryland.

Wagner earned her bachelor's degree in Slavic literature and languages from the University of Virginia in 1994. In 1995, she attended graduate school at Florida State and St. Petersburg State University (Russia). Wagner then earned a law degree from the University of Richmond in 1998.
