Women's Basketball To Take On Savannah State And South Carolina State On Road Trip

Morgan State, still in search for its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) victory of the season, will also look to put an end to its current nine-game losing skid, when it visits Savannah State on Saturday at 4 p.m., before taking on South Carolina State on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
 
BEAR CLAWS: Morgan State (2-15, 0-4 MEAC) nearly overcame a 19-point deficit in its last outing against North Carolina A&T (1/16), pulling within 63-62 with 24 seconds remaining, but in the end would drop a 67-62 decision to the Lady Aggies. Braennan Farrar led Morgan State with a game-high 19 points, while Tykyrah Williams added 12 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. Ivy Harrington came off the bench and provided a spark for the Lady Bears, finishing with six points on 3-for-3 shooting, while Zuri White and Chelsea Mitchell each added six points on 3-of-7 shooting. TIGER STRIPES: Savannah State (4-13, 2-3 MEAC) winners of two straight, enters the contest coming off a 60-49 road victory over South Carolina State (1/16). Rhianna Warren scored a team-high 16 points and Kenyata Hendrix finished with a double-double of 10 points and added a game-high 10 rebounds. The Lady Tigers have been led by Hendrix (11.4 points) and Lauren Moss (10.1 points). Tiyonda Davis is the team's leading rebounder at 7.9 rebounds per game and has a team-high 55 blocked shots, while Jeremica Edwards is contributing 6.5 boards and has a team-best 21 steals.
 
MSU VS. SAVANNAH STATE SERIES NOTES: Morgan State evened the series up at 4-4 with its 66-60 triple-overtime win last season at Savannah State (2/6/16).
 
BULLDOG BISCUITS: South Carolina State (3-11, 0-3 MEAC) enters its home game on Saturday against Delaware State, losers of nine straight games, following a 60-49 home loss to Savannah State (1/16). Bryeasha Blair scored a game-high 17 points, while Brittany Drumgoole finished with 10 points and seven rebounds and Jahmia Bradley added nine points and six rebounds in the loss. Blair is averaging 17.4 points and has a team-leading 23 steals. Drumgoole is scoring 10.7 points and leads the team with 32 assists. Bradley is averaging 7.1 boards a game.
 
MSU VS. S.C. STATE SERIES NOTES: South Carolina State leads the all-time series, 36-26. Morgan State has won the last two meetings, including a 62-56 victory in Orangeburg (2/8/16).
 
NEXT UP: The Lady Bears will return home on Monday, Jan. 30 to conclude a home-and-home series against Florida A&M. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Hill Field House. MSU dropped the first meeting against the Rattlers, 51-48 in Tallahassee, Fla. (1/9).
 
NINE STRAIGHT AND COUNTING: The Lady Bears' current losing streak reached a season-long nine games, following their 67-62 loss to North Carolina A&T State (1/16). The streak surpasses the previous five-game losing skid Morgan State had earlier in the season.
 
MOVING UP: Braennan Farrar scored four points in the loss at Florida A&M (1/9), giving her 1,059 points to surpass former Lady Bear Tracy Lewis (1,039 points from 1989-93) for 13th all-time at Morgan State. Farrar is now six points away from passing Vinstel Watson (1,064 points from 1987-89) for 12th-place at Morgan State.
 
IT'S BEEN AWHILE: Morgan State has dropped its last seven MEAC regular season contests, dating back to the last three games from the 2015-16 season. Morgan State's last regular season MEAC victory was a 66-55 victory at home over North Carolina Central (2/20/16).

FARRAR JOINS THE 1,000-POINT CLUB: Braennan Farrar became the 14th member in program history to join the 1,000-point club at Morgan State. Farrar, who entered the Richmond game (12/27) needing nine points to reach the plateau, scored her ninth and final point of the game on a layup at the 7:27 mark in the third quarter. She now has 1,036 points for her career.
 
A ROUGH DECEMBER: The Lady Bears have a combined record of 7-38 in the month of December, dating back to the 2010-11 campaign, including a 1-6 mark this season.
 
GETTING DEFENSIVE: Morgan has forced 349 opponent turnovers in 17 games, with 195 of them coming by way of steals. In the win against Washington Adventist, the Lady Bears forced a season-high 31 turnovers, a season-best 21 of them were steals. Morgan State converted those turnovers into 33 points.
