Morgan State fends off FAMU 62-59, remains unbeaten in MEAC

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. --  Senior forward Kyle Thomas matched a career-high with 19 points and Morgan State defeated Florida A&M 62-59 on Tuesday to remain undefeated in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Morgan State (6-10, 3-0) last started MEAC play 3-0 in the 2013-14 season. The Bears ended the first half on a 22-12 run to lead by 11 and never trailed after that. Junior forward Phillip Carr, the reigning MEAC co-Player of the Week, scored 16 points with 10 rebounds for the Bears.

Desmond Williams led FAMU (4-12, 2-1) with 16 points; Brendon Myles added 11 and Elijah Mays 10. The Rattlers closed to 53-52 on a Marcus Barham dunk with 1:27 left, but Carr answered with a 3-pointer for Morgan State at the other end and the Bears made six straight free throws.

Mayes scored a layup and Nasir Core made two foul shots for the final score.

Morgan State tops the MEAC with Delaware State and Hampton just behind at 2-0.
