EAST LANSING, Mich. (Sept. 3, 2016)-Florida's Carli Snyder recorded a match-high 14 kills and Morgyn Greer added nine kills, as the seventh-ranked Gators defeated Morgan State, 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-9) on Saturday afternoon in the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational at Jenison Field House.
The contest was the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Florida improved to 2-0 in the tournament, while Morgan State ended Day 1 losing both of its matches.Â
Florida (3-1), which is on a three-match winning streak, finished with 44 kills on 72 attempts and just four errors for a .556 hitting percentage. Cheyenne Huskey recorded a match-high 35 assists and tied teammate Caroline Knop with a match-high seven digs.
After limiting the Lady Bears to just five kills in the opening set and a .000 hitting percentage, the Gators went to work offensively in Set 2. Florida would record a whopping 21 kills and had just one error for a .588 percentage.
The Gators would then hit for .562 in the third and final set, totaling 10 kills on 16 attempts and again just one error. The Lady Bears would commit 11 attacking errors for a -.185 hitting percentage and six kills in the third set.
Morgan State (0-5), was led by Natashia Barker, who tallied seven kills and Michaela Collins added six and led the squad with a .250 hitting percentage. As a team, Morgan State had a hitting percentage of .013, after recording 19 kills on 77 attempts and had 18 attacking errors. Roi Wallace notched 17 digs and Jasmin Hubbard led Morgan State with seven digs.
The Lady Bears will conclude the Spartan Invitational on Sunday with a non-conference match against Central Michigan. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
