Lady Bears Open Up VCU Invitational Against Middle Tennessee

BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 16, 2016)-The Morgan State volleyball team will play its fourth and final regular season tournament of 2016 this weekend when they travel to Richmond, Va. for the VCU Invitational, hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University.
 
The Lady Bears will open up the tournament on Friday morning with an 11 a.m. contest against first-time opponent Middle Tennessee, before taking on Liberty at 3 p.m. Morgan State will close out the weekend on Saturday with a noon match-up against the host VCU Rams. All matches will be played at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
 
Morgan State heads into this weekend's match-ups with a 1-1 all-time mark against Liberty and is 1-3 all-time against VCU.
 
The Lady Bears (0-11) enter the tournament in search of their first win of the season. In its last outing, Morgan State dropped a 3-0 decision to American on Wednesday in its home opener. Natashia Barker tallied a team-high 12 kills and Keana Browne finished with nine kills and a team-best three blocks, including two solo blocks in the loss to American. Victoria Turnbough and Roi Wallace each had a match-high nine digs, while Wallace also finished with 26 assists and three kills out of five attempts for a .600 hitting percentage.
 
Barker (85 kills) and Haley McClure (60 kills) have paced the Lady Bears offense thus far. Barker has a team-high six service aces, while McClure and Wallace are tied for second with five each. Barker and McClure also lead the team in digs with 66 each and Jasmin Hubbard has 63. Wallace leads the team with a total of 207 assists (6.47), while Monette Daniels has recorded a team-leading 20 blocks and Turnbough is second with 18 blocks.
 
Middle Tennessee (2-8) enters the contest coming off a 3-0 loss at Wake Forest on Wednesday. The loss was the eighth out of the last nine matches for the Blue Raiders. Delaney Gallagher led the Blue Raiders with six kills, while Jacqueline Lux finished with 16 assists and six digs, both team highs. The Blue Raiders finished the match with a .000 hitting percentage after recording 22 kills and committing 22 attack errors on 83 attempts.
