BALTIMORE, Md. – Dante Holmes scored 18 points with nine rebounds and six assists as North Carolina Central posted a 73-59 victory against Morgan State on Saturday. It marked the Eagles first trip to Hill Field House since 2012.
Holmes, a Baltimore native, was 6 of 16 from the field including three 3-pointers for the Eagles (11-16, 6-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Patrick Cole added 14 points, Jeremiah Ingram had 11 and Kyle Benton 10. The team hit 51 percent from the field and went 6 of 15 (40 percent) from distance.
Morgan State hit 34 percent from the field, 88 percent from the line and was 0 for 11 from beyond the arc.
NCCU led 10-2 to open the game and never really looked back as they posted a wire-to-wire win.
The Eagles led 41-25 at the break and outscored Morgan State 34-32 in the second half for the win.
Cedric Blossom scored a game-high 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds for the Bears (5-20, 3-9) who have lost five straight.
Rasean Simpson and Andre Horne finished with 8 points apiece, while
Phillip Carr added 7 points with nine rebounds.
NCCU committed 12 turnovers, which Morgan State turned into 15 points. Morgan State had just four turnovers as a team. NCCU's bench held a 33-12 advantage.
The Bears will continue its 3-game homestand when they return to action on Monday, Feb 22 to play host to the North Carolina A&T Aggies, followed by a visit from the Norfolk State Spartans on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
