Morgan State wipes out Coppin State, 83-43

BALTIMORE, Md. -- From the jump, the Morgan State Bears made their presence felt inside & outside the paint. Coppin State barely registered a blip on the radar. The Bears didn't let their foot off the gas in their 83-43 pummeling of the crosstown rival Coppin State Eagles tonight at Hill Field House.

This was the biggest score difference in Morgan State's favor since the 2012-13 season when the Bears registered an 80-51 win over the Eagles. MSU started fast going up 16-6 with 11:42 remaining and Morgan State (5-15, 3-4 MEAC) shot the lights out early and often in the first half.

Coppin State (5-16, 3-5 MEAC) struggled to find or make a shot all game long. The Morgan defense limited Coppin to only 27.5% shooting in the game. MSU made 44.1% from the field in the game.

Morgan State's Rasean Simpson recorded a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead everyone. The defense didn't allow a single Coppin player to score in double figures. Christian Kessee led the Eagles with nine points while Terry Harris Jr. led CSU with 10 rebounds on the night.

Morgan State head coach Todd Bozeman was very happy with the consistency of his Bears.

"We had some things that you guys wouldn't see that we had to make sure we tightened up on," said Bozeman. "For the most part, we executed the game plan and we wanted to make sure we didn't let Coppin get transition baskets. They drive and rebound. They've been rebounding like crazy. But we have been too."

Morgan State outrebounded the Eagles 52-35 on the night. The Bears led by as much as 45 points. The Bears seemed to do what they want from the opening tip.

"This is the first time we've had all our guys," Bozeman said. "They're playing hard and coming together. I'm extremely proud of them. We just want to keep moving forward and getting better."

The Bears hit the road for the Saturday-Monday swing and head to Savannah, Georgia to take on the Savannah State Tigers on Saturday afternoon to attempt to expand their winning streak to three straight games.
