LMU tops Morgan State 70-49

Phillip Carr led MSU with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

LOS ANGELES --  Steven Haney scored 22 of his 24 points in the second half to help Loyola Marymount beat Morgan State 70-49 on Monday night at Gersten Pavilion.

Haney scored 18 of LMU's first 22 points of the second half -- with four 3-pointers. He was 7 of 10 from the field, including 4 of 6 from distance, during the stretch.

Stefan Jovanovic had 14 points and eight rebounds for Loyola Marymount (7-4). Buay Tuach added 13 points and 10 boards. The Lions entered having won four of their last six -- with a differential of just 16 points.

LMU held a 32-22 lead at halftime after holding Morgan State to 31 percent shooting. Jovanovic and Tuach each had 10 points for LMU and Phillip Carr scored 12 of Morgan State's 22 points. Tuach hit a 3-pointer from the corner for a 12-point lead late in the half and Jovanovic grabbed six offensive rebounds to help the Lions hold a 13-0 advantage on second-chance points.

Carr recorded his fifth double-double of the season by finishing with 22 points and 10 rebounds for Morgan State (3-9). Antonio Gillespie added a season-high 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Martez Cameron chipped in six assists.

It was the third straight loss for the Bears, who played their third straight without the MEAC's leading scorer(22.9 ppg) Tiwian Kendley.

The Lions held Morgan State to 34.5 percent from the field  (20-for-58) while hitting 42.1 percent from the field (24-57) themselves. The Lions finished the game with nine steals, forcing 14 turnovers and won the battle in points off turnovers, 19-9.

The Bears return to action with one more contest before the New Year when they take on CA-Northridge on Thursday, Dec. 29. Tip-off is scheduled for 10 p.m. (ET).
