Bears Fall to High Point at the Buzzer, 62-61

BALTIMORE, Md.  --  Anthony Lindauer hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer and High Point erased a 20-point second-half deficit to beat Morgan State 62-61 on Monday night at Hill Field House.

High Point was just 1 of 16 from distance before Lindauer's basket capped a 16-3 run in the final 90 seconds.

Morgan State (2-5) had a 20-point lead midway through the second half and a 13-point advantage with 2:02 left, but High Point cut it to single digits, 59-50, with 1:17 remaining. Morgan State junior guard Tiwian Kendley was called for a charge and fouled out of the ballgame with 45.5 seconds left and Ricky Madison split a pair from the line to pull High Point to 60-55.

Senior forward Kyle Thomas was tied up on the ensuing inbound play and High Point (4-3) took possession with 29.1 seconds left. Andre Fox was fouled on a jumper and hit both free throws to make it 60-57. Morgan State broke the press but freshman forward David Syfax missed the layup and Miles Bowman Jr. converted at the other end with 6.9 seconds left to make it 60-59.

Freshman guard Stanley Davis was fouled with 4.7 seconds left and hit 1 of 2 free throws to extend the lead for Morgan State to 61-59. Then Jamal Wright took the inbounds pass and raced it over halfcourt before dishing it off to Lindauer who raised and fired the game-winner from about two feet outside of the 3-point line.

Junior forward Phillip Carr paced the Bears with 18 points on 8-for-10 shooting and had seven rebounds. Thomas posted his first double-double of the season by finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Kendley added 10 points (4-4 FT) and two assists.

High Point got the win despite shooting just 2-17 from behind the arc after entering the night as the top-3-point shooting team in the Big South. The Panthers were able to overcome their shooting struggles with a strong showing at the line where the team went 22-27 in the game.

Morgan State held a 31-20 halftime lead.

With the win, High Point evened the series record against Morgan State to 2-2.
