Lady Bears Fall Short To UMKC, 64-56

KANSAS CITY, Mo., (November 26, 2016)-Braennan Farrar scored a game-high 26 points and Tykyrah Williams came off the bench to score 15 points, but it wasn't enough as Morgan State dropped a 64-56 non-conference decision to the University of Missouri Kansas City on Saturday afternoon at the Swinney Recreation Center.

Morgan State fell to 1-4 on the season, while UMKC improved to 2-3, following its consolation victory over the Lady Bears in the finale of the Plaza Lights Classic.

Williams pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, while Farrar, who was named to the all-tournament team and Chelsea Mitchell led the Lady Bears with a game-high three steals each.

Morgan State finished the game shooting 37 percent (22-of-58) and shot 83.3 percent (10-of-12) from the charity line. The host Kangaroos shot 27-of-50 (54 percent), but was jus 4-for-10 (40 percent) from the free throw line. UMKC hauled in 44 rebounds, 30 of which were defensive, while Morgan State was limited to just 19 total rebounds as a team.

The Kangaroos were led by Samantha Waldron, who finished with 11 points and had a game-high three steals. Kristen Moore came off the bench to score 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting and Aries Washington also added 11 points in a reserve roll. Kiana Law grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.

"The effort and heart was there and we didn't give up," said Morgan State head coach Ed Davis. "We just lost it in the end because with our injuries we didn't have the interior defense to hold them off."

The Lady Bears were playing without two of its starters, Zuri White, who recently suffered an injury and Lexus Spears, who had been battling an injury since prior to the season.

Morgan State will next be in action on Wednesday, Nov. 30, when it travels to Huntington, W.Va. to take on Marshall at 4 p.m.
