BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 5, 2016)-The Morgan State volleyball team returns to action this Thursday evening when it takes on the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawks. First serve is at 7 p.m. at the Hytche Athletic Center in Princess Anne, Md. The contest will be for sole possession of second-place in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) standings, as both teams enter with 2-1 MEAC records.
The Lady Bears (2-15), who are coming off a week-long layoff, had its two-match winning streak snapped following a 3-0 loss to visiting Howard on Sept. 29 in Baltimore.
Morgan State was led by Haley McClure, who totaled six kills and Victoria Turnbough finished with five. Keana Browne and Natashia Barker had four and three kills, respectively, to account for the rest of Morgan's offensive production. Jasmine Hubbard collected 10 digs and Roi Wallace had 18 assists. The Lady Bears were held to a -.011 hitting percentage by Howard with 18 kills on 88 attempts, including just three kills and a -.174 hitting percentage in the second set. Â
Barker leads Morgan State with 141 kills, while McClure has added 112 kills and a team-high 11 service aces. Wallace has paced the Lady Bears with 372 assists and Hubbard leads the team with 130 digs. Browne has recorded a team-high 29 blocks, while Monette Daniels and Turnbough have each tallied 23 blocks. Â
UMES (9-10) is currently on a two-match losing skid, after dropping its previous eight straight. The Lady Hawks defeated both Norfolk State and Hampton last weekend on the road to move into a second-place tie with Morgan State.Â
Lucia Babic leads the Lady Hawks with a total of 151 kills, while Ivana Blazevic has recorded 385 assists and Zuzana Ondruskova has a team-leading 158 digs. Iva Vujosevic leads UMES in service aces with 30 and Mere Serea has a team-best 67 blocks.
