Morgan State To Close Out First Half Of MEAC Slate Against Coppin State

BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 11, 2016)-The Morgan State volleyball team will look to close out the first half of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division slate this Friday, Oct. 14, when it welcomes rival Coppin State to Hill Field House. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Morgan State (3-16, 3-2 MEAC) currently sits in third place in the northern division, while Coppin State (1-18, 1-4 MEAC) is in sixth.

The Lady Bears are coming off a 3-0 road sweep of Delaware State last Sunday in Dover. Keana Browne led Morgan State with a match-high 15 kills and Natashia Barker added eight, as the Lady Bears ended a two-match losing skid. Browne, who hit for a match-high .367 percentage, also had a service ace, a dig and tied Monette Daniels with a match-high three blocks. Both Browne and Daniels each had two solo blocks to help the Lady Bears hold a 6.0-3.0 blocking advantage over the Hornets.

Jasmin Hubbard and Victoria Turnbough led the Lady Bears with eight digs apiece and Turnbough added a match-high four service aces. Milan Amos and Roi Wallace each finished with three service aces, as Morgan State recorded 12 aces for the match. Wallace also recorded a match-high 28 assists, as Morgan State won its 10th straight over Delaware State and improved to 43-18 all-time in the series.

Morgan State has been led by Barker, who has recorded a team-leading 154 kills and ranks second in digs with 119. Browne leads the Lady Bears in blocks with 33 and is second in kills with 134. Hubbard has tallied a team-high 149 digs, while Wallace has totaled 419 assists and is second in service aces with 10. Haley McClure (115 kills, 110 digs) leads Morgan State with 13 service aces.

Coppin State ended a 17-match losing skid, when it picked up its first win of the season with a 3-0 sweep of Delaware State on the road on Friday, Oct. 7. Two days later the Eagles traveled to Princess Anne, Md., where they dropped a 3-0 decision to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Dominique Madarang collected a match-high 15 digs and added 14 assists to earn a double-double. Guro Froberg finished with a team-high 10 kills for the Eagles, who as a team recorded 21 kills. Jasmine Lougheed and Valiyah Barnes each tallied a match-high three blocks. All three of Lougheed's blocks were solos.

The Eagles have been paced offensively by Bailee Jackson (170 kills) and Froberg (137 kills). Glorines Rosado has recorded a team-best 18 service aces, while Madarang has totaled 436 assists on the season. Defensively, Rosado has accounted for a team-high 248 digs. Kennedy Curtis and Barnes lead Coppin State with 32 blocks each.

Friday evening's match-up will mark the 70th meeting between the two programs. Morgan State leads the all-time series over Coppin State, 59-10. The two teams have split the last eight meetings, with three of their four victories coming on their home floor.
