Volleyball Keeps Delaware State Winless With Sweep

DOVER, Del. (Oct. 9, 2016)-Keana Browne tallied a match-high 15 kills and Natashia Barker added eight, as the Lady Bears ended a two-match losing skid with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-23) road victory over Delaware State on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Hall.

Morgan State improved to 3-16 overall and 3-2 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division with the win and upped its overall mark to 43-18 all-time against Delaware State, including 10 straight.

Browne also hit for a match-high .367 percentage, had a service ace, a dig and tied Monette Daniels with a match-high three blocks. Both Browne and Daniels each had two solo blocks to help the Lady Bears hold a 6.0-3.0 blocking advantage over the Hornets.

Jasmin Hubbard and Victoria Turnbough led the Lady Bears with eight digs and Turnbough added a match-high four service aces. Milan Amos and Roi Wallace (28 assists) finished with three service aces apiece, as Morgan State recorded 12 aces for the match.

Delaware State (0-18, 0-5 MEAC) was led by Jae Jackson, who finished with eight kills and Danyelle Tucker chipped in with six. Alliyah McBean led the way with 10 digs and Gabriella Enriquez had a team-high 24 assists. NaKia Jones and Tucker finished with two blocks each.

The Lady Bears finished the day with 33 kills on 92 attempts and had 18 attack errors for a hitting percentage of .163. The host Hornets totaled 29 kills on 92 attempts and had 21 errors for a .087 hitting percentage. Delaware State also finished with five service aces with Kalena Wiggins leading the way with three. 

Morgan State will conclude the first half of the MEAC slate this Friday, Oct. 14, when it returns home to host crosstown rival Coppin State at 7 p.m. at Hill Field House. The Lady Bears lead the all-time series over Coppin State, 59-10.
