DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 18, 2016)-The Morgan State Lady Bears' seat atop the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) standings unfortunately lasted just one game. After defeating then league-leader Florida A&M on Saturday, the Lady Bears dropped a 63-48 decision to host Bethune-Cookman on Monday evening at Moore Gymnasium.

The Lady Bears (6-12, 4-2 MEAC) fell to fourth-place in the league standings tied with North Carolina A&T and Florida A&M with identical 4-2 conference record. Morgan State however would hold any tie-breaker scenarios over Florida A&M, by way of its victory over the Rattlers on Saturday.

Bethune-Cookman (10-8, 4-1 MEAC), who completed the weekend by defeating both Coppin State and Morgan State, while both teams held the top spot in the league standings, now sits on top tied with Hampton (6-12, 4-1 MEAC).

Kailyn Williams, who earlier in the day was named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, scored a career-high 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting, pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, had three assists and blocked a game-high five shots to lead the Lady Wildcats. Taylor Houston finished with 13 points and Angel Golden came off the bench to add 10 points. Jasmine Knowles tallied eight points and seven rebounds, as Bethune-Cookman earned its third straight win.

Tykyrah Williams came off the bench to score 17 points to lead Morgan State, which has lost three straight and five of the last six to the Lady Wildcats.
Lexus Spears finished with eight points and eight rebounds, while
Braennan Farrar added eight points and had a game-high four steals.
Zuri White, who on Saturday recorded a career-high 20 rebounds at Florida A&M, was held to just three rebounds.

Morgan State jumped out to an early 5-0 lead to start the contest, before Houston knocked down a three-pointer with 4:59 to play in the first quarter to even the score at nine. 32 seconds later the Lady Wildcats would take their first lead of the game on a layup by Knowles, making it an 11-9 lead, one B-CU would not relinquish the rest of the evening. The Lady Wildcats held a 19-13 advantage after the first quarter and took a 35-25 cushion into the locker room at the half.

A jumper by Williams in the fourth quarter brought the Lady Bears within eight points (54-46) with 6:11 to play in the game. That would be as close as Morgan State would come. B-CU, which closed out the game on a 9-2 run, would score the next nine points, capped off by a Houston three-pointer to give the hosts their largest lead of the game at 17 points (63-46) with 34 seconds remaining.

The Lady Bears will be off until Saturday, Jan. 30, when they welcome the Lady Bison of Howard to Hill Field House for a MEAC contest. The two Beltway rivals will tip-off at 2 p.m. Howard leads the all-time series, 49-17. Morgan State has won two straight over the Lady Bison, including last season's 77-64 victory in Washington, D.C. (1/31/15). Howard had won the previous five contests.
