BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 30, 2016)-Zuri White scored a game- and career-high 22 points and Lexus Spears added 14, as the host Lady Bears defeated Howard, 78-66 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game on Saturday afternoon at Hill Field House.
White, who shot 8-for-11 from the floor, while connecting on all six of her free throw attempts, added a game-high 13 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season. Braennan Farrar also tallied a double-double, tying her career-high of 12 assists and scoring 11 points. Danielle Robinson came off the bench to score 12 points, as the Lady Bears improved to 18-49 all-time against the Lady Bison.
Morgan State (7-12, 5-2 MEAC) shot 37 percent (27-of-73) for the game and was 6-of-25 (24 percent) from three-point range. The Lady Bears also connected on all 18 of their free throw attempts, marking the first time this season Morgan State has shot 100 percent from the charity line.
Howard (3-16, 1-5 MEAC) finished the game shooting 36.2 percent (21-of-58) from the floor and shot 5-of-16 (31 percent) from three-point range. Howard connected on 19-of-26 attempts from the free throw line for 73 percent.
The Lady Bears will have a day off before another important rivalry game on Monday, Feb. 1, when they host crosstown rival Coppin State. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Hill Field House.
Coppin State leads the all-time series, 37-31, but the Lady Bears have won three of the past four meetings. Last season Morgan State swept the regular season series winning both games for the first time since the 2012-13 season. The two teams would meet a third time, when they squared off in the first round of the MEAC Tournament (3/10/15). The Eagles would defeat the Lady Bears, 71-56. It would be Morgan State's first loss ever to Coppin State in a MEAC Tournament contest in four tries.
