BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 16, 2016)-For the first time this season, the Lady Bears basketball team put together four complete quarters in a game and the result was a 67-62 road victory over the Florida A&M Rattlers in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest on Saturday at the Al Lawson Center.
The win was the Lady Bears' ninth in the last 11 meetings against Florida A&M, as they improved to 12-33 all-time against the Rattlers.
Morgan State, which improved to 6-11, 4-1 MEAC, is now in sole possession of first-place in the league standings. Florida A&M (9-9, 3-2 MEAC) fell into a three-way tie for fifth-place with North Carolina A&T and South Carolina State.
Braennan Farrar scored a game-high 21 points and added four assists and two steals to lead the Lady Bears. Zuri White pulled down a career- and game-high 20 rebounds, 11 defensive and scored 10 points to earn her first double-double of the season. Ivy Harrington and Danielle Robinson each added 10 points in a reserve roll.
The Rattlers were led by Khadejra Young, who tallied a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Olivia Antilla finished with 13 points and Alicia McCray added 10 points and eight rebounds for FAMU, who had its two-game winning streak snapped.
Morgan State outrebounded the Rattlers 47-40 for the game and had 30 defensive boards, preventing FAMU from second chance opportunities. The Lady Bears held a 29-7 advantage in bench points.
The Lady Bears, who are on their first three-game winning streak since last season (Jan. 10-17) will take on Bethune-Cookman on Monday, Jan. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at Moore Gymnasium in Daytona Beach, Fla. Â
Lasy year Bethune-Cookman defeated the Lady Bears, 55-48 in Baltimore, Md. (1/19/15) and ended Morgan State's season-long three game winning streak.
The Lady Wildcats (9-8, 3-1 MEAC), who currently sit tied with Hampton in second-place, are coming off a 69-56 victory over Coppin State on Saturday. The win gave Coppin State its first conference loss of the season and knocked the Eagles out of first place.
