Women’s Basketball Outlasts UMES In Overtime, 77-69

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (Jan. 12, 2016)-For Morgan State sophomore guard Braennan Farrar, there's something about playing at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center on the campus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), that brings out her best.

Last season Farrar scored a career-high 30 points in a regular season finale road win against the Lady Hawks (3/5/15). Tonight the St. Louis, Mo. native scored a combined 17 of her game-high 27 points in the second half and overtime session to lead the visiting Lady Bears to a 77-69 overtime victory over UMES in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game on Monday evening.

The win was the first road victory for the Lady Bears (5-11, 3-1 MEAC) this season in eight attempts. It was also Morgan State's first road win since last season's victory at UMES.

Tykyrah Williams, who has been playing strong as of late, came off the bench to score 18 points and hauled in six rebounds. Lexus Spears totaled her third double-double of the season, finishing with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Zuri White pulled down 11 rebounds to go with six points, while Simone Sampson totaled a career-high five blocked shots.

UMES (3-12, 1-2 MEAC), which dropped its third straight game, was led by Ciani Byrom, who finished with 17 points. TeAmber Burke, who came off the bench to score 12 points to go along with six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Moengaroa Subritzky recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and had a game-high six assists. Alexis Udoji fell shy of a double-double, as she grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and scored nine points. Udoji also tallied five blocked shots to tie Sampson for game-high honors.

The Lady Bears will head to the Sunshine State this weekend for two MEAC games. Morgan State will first travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to visit the Rattlers of Florida A&M on Saturday, Jan. 16, before heading to Daytona Beach, Fla. to take on the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats on Monday, Jan. 18. This will be the Lady Bears' first trip to Florida for conference play since Feb. 1, 2012, when they dropped an 88-57 decision at Florida A&M. The last time Morgan State faced both teams in Florida was 2011 and the Lady Bears walked away with two wins.
