ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Nov. 28, 2016)-Siena's Kollyns Scarbrough led three Saints players in double figures scoring with a game-high 15 points and Emmanuella Edoka recorded a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, as the Saints defeated Morgan State 69-46 in the consolation game of the Navy Classic on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Hall.
The win was the first of the season for Siena (1-5), thus ending a five-game losing skid. Morgan (1-5) suffered its fifth consecutive loss of the season.
Edoka also tallied a game-high three blocked shots, while Denisha Petty-Evans added 10 points for Siena and had a game-high three steals. Margot Hetzke finished with nine rebounds and had two blocks.
The Lady Bears were led by Lexus Spears, who despite foul trouble totaled 10 points and added nine rebounds to fall shy of a double-double. Danielle Robinson came off the bench to score eight points and Braennan Farrar added seven points. Chelsea Mitchell added seven points and pulled down nine rebounds to help Morgan State hold a 51-47 rebounding advantage over the Saints.
Both teams forced 20 turnovers, but the Saints converted those turnovers into 21 points, while Morgan State only scored eight points off of the 20 Siena turnovers.
The Saints, who led 30-20 at the intermission, outscored the Lady Bears 29-15 in the third period to take a 59-35 lead after three quarters and put the game out of reach.
Morgan State travels to Moon Township, Pa. to meet Robert Morris in a non-conference game on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
