Robert Morris Hands Lady Bears Sixth Straight Loss, 76-44

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (Dec. 2, 2015)-The Morgan State Lady Bears suffered their sixth consecutive loss, following a 76-44 non-conference defeat at Robert Morris on Wednesday evening at the Sewall Center. It was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
 
The Colonials (4-3) were led by A Nik Stamolamprou, who scored a game-high 13 points and added a game-high 11 rebounds to record a double-double. Stamolamprou also added a game-high five assists for a RMU squad that totaled 20 assists as a team to just five by Morgan State. Mikalah Mulrain finished with 10 points, while Ashley Ravelli, Janee Brown and Leah Wormack added nine points apiece.
 
Megan Smith pulled down eight rebounds and Rebeca Navarro (eight points) and Lou Mataly each added four rebounds to help the hosts to a 44-28 rebounding advantage over Morgan State.
 
The Lady Bears (1-6), who were without the services of Chelsea Mitchell (6.0 points and 12 steals) and lost leading scorer Braennan Farrar (12.5 points) early in the game, were led by Tykyrah Williams, who came off the bench to score a game-high 13 points. Williams also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and collected a game-high two steals in the loss. Danielle Robinson also came off the bench and added 11 points, as Morgan State held a slim 31-29 advantage over Robert Morris in bench scoring.
 
Senior forward Dinah Jones, who saw her first action of the season since rejoining the team, following the conclusion of the volleyball season at Morgan, scored four points, grabbed four rebounds and had a block in her first start. Simone Sampson came off the bench to score five points, had a game-high two blocks, an assist and a steal before fouling out.
 
The Lady Bears, who thus far this season have struggled to find consistent scoring, shot 17-of-53 (32 percent), including 1-of-8 (12 percent) from three-point range.  

Robert Morris, which outscored Morgan State 30-14 in the paint and held a 20-5 advantage in second chance points, shot 50 percent (29-of-58) for the game. The Colonials connected on 9-of-22 (40.9 percent) from three-point range and had a 17-2 cushion in points off of turnovers.
 
The Colonials broke open a seven-point game (16-9) after one quarter, by outscoring the Lady Bears 30-11 in the second quarter to take a 46-20 halftime lead.
 
The Lady Bears will now tend their focus to this weekend's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opener against the Spartans of Norfolk State on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. Morgan State will then take on the Hampton Lady Pirates in a MEAC showdown on Monday, Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m. Both contests will be played at Hill Field House.
