James Madison Has Its Way With Lady Bears, 92-31

HARRISONBURG, Va. (Nov. 17, 2015)-The Morgan State women's basketball team was victimized by a hot shooting James Madison squad on Tuesday night, which through its first two non-conference games appears to be on a mission.

Behind a game-high 24 points from Ashley Perez, who shot 9-of-11 from the floor, including 6-of-7 from the three-point arc and a double-double performance out of Da'Lishia Griffin, who shot a combined 6-of-7, including 2-of-3 from three-point range for 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, the Dukes cruised to a 92-31 victory over Morgan State at the JMU Convocation Center.

The 61-point margin of victory is the third largest all-time for the Dukes, surpassing the 58-point victory the team recorded just two days earlier in the season opening win (88-30) over Longwood. Tuesday's victory also marked the first time in program history that JMU has won back-to-back games by 50 or more points.

Fellow starters Jazmon Gwathmey and Angela Mickens each scored 12 points, while Mickens (6-of-7) added a game-high 12 assists to record a double-double. Savannah Felgemacher came off the bench to score 10 points for the host Dukes, who improved to 5-0 all-time against Morgan State.

James Madison (2-0) would have its way with the Lady Bears, shooting 63 percent (36-of-57) from the floor for the game, including 11-of-21 (52 percent) from three-point range. On defense, JMU forced 21 Morgan State turnovers, including 12 steals, which it turned into 31 points.

The Dukes, who opened up with a 16-0 run in their game against Longwood, started out with a 13-0 spurt against Morgan State. Perez would go 3-for-3 from three-point range during that stretch. The Dukes would limit the Lady Bears to just 10 first half points (five points each in the first two quarters) and held a 51-10 advantage at the break.

Morgan State (1-1) was led by Lexus Spears, who scored a team-high 11 points, while Braennan Farrar added 10 points. Zuri White grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. The Lady Bears would connect on just 11 field goals out of 60 attempts for 18 percent. The guests would also struggle from beyond the arc, hitting just one of their 15 three-point attempts for 6.7 percent.

The Lady Bears will continue their road trip with a visit to Brown on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. in Providence, R.I., before concluding with a 7 p.m. contest at Syracuse on Monday, Nov. 23 in Syracuse, N.Y.
