Morgan State Comes Up Short In Comeback Against Rival Coppin State, 3-2

BALTIMORE, Md. (October 17, 2015)-The Morgan State women's volleyball team closed out the first half of its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division slate with a tough 3-2 (22-25, 25-15, 21-25, 29-27, 12-15) loss at rival Coppin State on Friday evening at the Physical Education Complex Auxiliary Gym.

With the loss, Morgan State (7-13, 4-2 MEAC), which began the conference slate winning its first three contests, dropped two of its last three matches. The Lady Bears also fell from second-place in the league standings to fourth, as the Coppin State moved into third-place by way of the tie-breaker over Morgan State.

Coppin State (7-10, 4-2 MEAC) was led by Cindy Okpegbue, who recorded a match-high 21 kills, including the final point to give the host Eagles the win and their first win at home this season. Chelsee Sauni came up big for Coppin State, recording a double-double with 52 assists and 11 digs. Samantha Pollk tallied a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs, while Bailee Jackson added a double-double of 11 kills and 10 digs. Glorines Rosado totaled a match-high 21 digs.

Carmen Fernandez tallied a match-high 55 assists and added 13 digs to record a double-double, but it wasn't enough for Morgan State. Keana Browne totaled a team-high 18 kills and Dinah Jones added 15 kills, while Evely Macedo recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs. Arianna Hayden also had a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Minja Rankov finished with 14 digs.

The Lady Bears will be off until next Friday, Oct. 23, when they host the Hampton Pirates in a MEAC match at 7 p.m. at Hill Field House. The contest will be the Lady Bears' annual Dig Pink event to help raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.
