MSU Volleyball Swats Hornets 3-0

Lady Bears Improve to 4-1 in MEAC

Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. - The Morgan State volleyball team was able to add another 'W' to the win column at Hill Field House on Sunday afternoon against the Delaware State Hornets.

The Lady Bears were eager to bounce back from a disappointing home loss to Maryland Eastern Shore last Friday (Oct. 9). MSU held strong and posted its second home win of the season by defeating the Hornets 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-15).

Morgan State improved to 7-12 on the season and sit in second place in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division with a 4-1 mark. The Hornets fell to 2-15 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

The Lady Bears were led by senior Arianna Hayden, who recorded 9 kills, 4 digs, and a block during the contest. Junior Minja Rankov posted 14 digs in the match, which was one away from tying Delaware State's total digs in the match.

Another player that stepped up big was senior Carmen Fernandez, who recorded a match high 25 assists. The Lady Bears were consistent and aggressive for most of the match and finished with a season high .403 attack percentage.

On the other hand Delaware State did come out playing aggressive but were unable to slow down the Bears sufficiently enough and early enough. Although the Hornets had a few spurts here and there, they could not maintain their momentum long enough before the Lady Bears took over.

In the first set the Lady Bears had to battle to a 25-21 win. The Lady Bears scored the first nine points of the second set and cruised 25-13. Delaware State showed a glimpse of a possible comeback in the third set, but the Lady Bears were able to close out the Hornets 25-15.

The Lady Bears travel to Coppin State (6-10, 3-2 MEAC) for a Friday night (Oct. 16) conference clash. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Auxiliary Gym.
