Lady Bears To Host Howard Friday In MEAC Home Opener And Battle Of Unbeatens

BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 1, 2015)-The Morgan State Lady Bears' volleyball team will look to extend their current three-match winning streak when they welcome the Lady Bison of Howard to Hill Field House on Friday, Oct. 2 for a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division contest. It will be the MEAC home opener for the Lady Bears. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
 
The match-up will be an early test between the two unbeaten rivals, who enter Friday's meeting in a three-way tie for first-place with Coppin State. This will be the 65th meeting between the two foes, with the Lady Bison holding a 38-26 all-time series lead.
 
Morgan State (5-11, 2-0 MEAC) is coming off a 2-0 mark last weekend on the road, following a 3-1 win at defending MEAC champion Hampton and a 3-2 victory at Norfolk State. It's the Lady Bears first 2-0 league start since the 2006 season.
 
Virginia Beach, Va. native Keana Browne tallied a team-high 15 kills and had a match-high .522 hitting percentage to lead the Lady Bears past Hampton in the MEAC opener both squads. Evely Macedo recorded 12 kills and had nine digs to tie Minja Rankov for the team-high in digs. Dinah Jones added 10 kills and Carmen Fernandez finished with a match-high 43 assists, as the Lady Bears earned just their second win over Hampton in the last seven meetings.
 
Led by Arianna Hayden's team-high 15 kills and 13 digs, a total of three Lady Bears recorded double-doubles in the win over Norfolk State. Macedo tallied 12 kills and 15 digs, while Samantha Prescott totaled 12 kills and 11 digs for the Lady Bears, who extended their season-long winning streak to three matches. Browne finished with 10 kills and Rankov set a career-high 19 digs. Fernandez had 49 assists to go with seven digs.
 
Macedo had paced the Lady Bears since her return with 2.91 kills per set, while Browne is contributing 2.76 kills and Hayden is averaging 2.59 kills per set. Prescott holds the team lead in digs with 3.12 per set and Fernandez is recording 8.19 assists per outing and also leads the Lady Bears with 23 service aces. Browne leads the team in blocks with 36.
 
The Lady Bison (5-12, 2-0 MEAC) winners of two straight and three of their last four contests, are coming off a 3-0 road victory at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, before defeating visiting Delaware State by a 3-1 score over the weekend.
 
Khaila Donaldson led Howard with a match-high 20 kills and had 15 digs in the win over Delaware State. Morgan Marlbrough had a match-high 23 digs and Tamia Dockery added 13 digs and a team-high 22 assists to earn a double-double. Dominique Cleggett finished with a team-high three blocks, all solo.
 
Howard has been led by Donaldson, who is averaging 3.27 kills per game and Katherine Broussard, who is chipping in with 2.32 kills per set. Briana Jackson is averaging a team-leading 5.50 assists per set, while Dockery is adding 3.83 assists. Jackson and Donaldson lead the Lady Bears in service aces with 23 each. Marlbrough is contributing 4.25 digs per set, while Cleggett has a team-high 39 blocks, including nine solo blocks.
