Lady Pirates Sail Past Morgan State, 3-1

Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 28, 2014)-Vendula Strakova recorded a double-double with a match-high 24 kills and added 12 digs to lead visiting Hampton to a 3-1 victory over Morgan State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) North Division match on Sunday afternoon at Hill Field House.
 
The win was the second straight for the Lady Pirates, after losing a season-long six consecutive matches. Morgan State had its season-long three-match winning streak snapped with the loss.
 
Hampton (7-8, 2-0 MEAC) the defending MEAC champions, received 15 kills from Krista Kraskura, while Allysa Medina had a team-high 13 digs. Kitija Megne finished with a match-high 42 assists to go with seven digs and a match-high three service aces.
 
Morgan State (8-7, 1-1 MEAC) was led by Arianna Hayden, who finished with 11 kills and six digs. Evely Macedo had 10 kills and six digs and Zuri Smith added nine kills. Carmen Fernandez totaled 35 assists and Samantha Prescott tallied a match-high 17 digs.
 
The Lady Pirates finished the match with a .336 hitting percentage with 50 kills and just 13 errors on 110 attempts. Hampton did commit 12 service errors and had six service aces.
 
Morgan State notched 46 kills out of 132 attempts, but had 28 errors for a hitting percentage of .136. They Lady Bears also had 10 service errors and five aces.
 
Hampton held a 13-7 advantage in blocks on the day. Marija Kocevska led the way with a match-high six blocks, while Sonja Maksimovic had five blocks. Smith had a team-high five blocks for Morgan State and Macedo totaled three.
 
Morgan State returns to the court this Friday, Oct. 3, when it plays host to Norfolk State. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. at Hill Field House. Norfolk State (0-14, 0-2 MEAC) is coming off a 3-0 loss at Coppin State on Sunday.
